Euro 2020 Prediction Competition

Haven’t said much on the Euro prediction competition, but with the Round of 16 underway and the Netherlands out it might be interesting to see what had been submitted via the entries in the competition.

For Semi-Finalists we have the following

###### Semi Finalist

France named as Euro Semi-Finalist 39 times

Portugal named as Euro Semi-Finalist 21 times

Italy named as Euro Semi-Finalist 20 times

Belgium named as Euro Semi-Finalist 20 times

Germany named as Euro Semi-Finalist 18 times

England named as Euro Semi-Finalist 18 times

Spain named as Euro Semi-Finalist 9 times

Netherlands named as Euro Semi-Finalist 8 times

Denmark named as Euro Semi-Finalist 2 times

Switzerland named as Euro Semi-Finalist 1 times

So some people are going to miss out on the Netherlands, and with Belgium playing Portugal and England playing Germany there’s going to be a good few to miss out on those points too.

###### Winners

France named as Euro winners 22 times

Germany named as Euro winners 6 times

Italy named as Euro winners 4 times

Portugal named as Euro winners 3 times

England named as Euro winners 2 times

Spain named as Euro winners 1 times

Belgium named as Euro winners 1 times

According to our prediction competition France are the clear favourites, with Germany far behind.

###### Number of Goals

The most interesting item was the number of goals, it’s been a goal fest so far and the prediction league in general would have predicted

Number of Goals (mean) at Euro 2020 = 117

So far there’s 103 goals and with another 11 matches still to play it’s going to be much higher than the 117 mark.

Best of luck to all players in with a chance of the win.

WSFL Under 16c League: Mooncoin Celtic 5 vs Tramore C 2

Another cracker served up in Ashgrove. Tramore came to Mooncoin today and gave us a real test.. they had most of the play early and we were lucky to turn it around to go 1-0 up after a well worked goal for Stephen Foran to tap in.. Tramore stepped up again and equalised to bring to 1-1 at half time.. An early second half penalty for Tramore got them 2-1 up and it looked like it wasn’t going to be our day.. Tramore kept the momentum and were knocking on the door.. the last 15 mins we started to get back up a gear and a great finish by Lee Freyne made it 2-2… We turned the game in the last 5 mins with a great header by Tom Conway to give us the lead.. Lee added his second after great work by Alex Bailey and a brilliant chip from Stephen Foran made it 5-2.. Jonah O’Toole in goal fronted by Ciara O’Keeffe, Denis Kinsella, Tom Conway and Alex Bailey, Conor Dermody came in the second half. We pushed hard with Adam Conway, Sean Lennon on the wings and Liam Hogan steadying the ship. Sam Hartwell battled really hard upfront. Daniel Robert’s, Cian O’Sullivan and Matthew Morahan made up the squad… man of the Match today was Captain Lee Freyne who lifted the team when we needed it.. well done all

Under 13 C league: Bohs 3 Mooncoin 3

Both teams came into this one with 2 wins from 2 a tough game was expected in warm conditions in the rsc and what a game it turned out to be. We were 3-1 up at one stage of the game with goals from Sean, Emmet and Daniel but it was end to end stuff all game and to be fair to bohs they never gave up and clawed there way back into the game with their speedy wingers in flying form. A draw would have been probably a fair result and we would have taken especially with several key players missing through injury but emmet Cusack score a perfectly legitimate goal with a min left on the clock when pounced inside the box the ball was at least a foot over the line only for play to be waved on amazingly. Our best player tonight was Daniel ponce de Leon who was everywhere for the 60 mins.

Under 16 C League: Cappoquin Railway 1 vs Mooncoin Celtic 3

1st vs 2nd in the league for the first game back dished up an absolute cracker in high temperatures today in Cappoquin. End to end all game thankfully we were resilient in defence and kept them out until late in the second half.Jonah O’Toole, Ciara O’Keeffe, Tom Conway, Conor Dermody and Denis Kinsella kept them at bay. Alex Bailey, Liam Hogan and Adam Conway in midfield killed the Oppositions pace nicely. The opening goal from Lee Freyne was first of two and his goal at the end killed the game. Sam Hartwell got the second. A mammoth performance from Sean Lennon for man of the match. Stephen Foran, Matthew Morahan, Cian O’Sullivan and Daniel Roberts all played their part in this win today. Great result 3 wins out of 3 to keep us top of the pile.

Club AGM Update

We had planned to hold our AGM tomorrow evening via zoom but instead it will be held in the great outdoors in Suir Crescent at 7.30pm.
As you have all seen in recent weeks the big number of kids attending training sessions in our lovely new ground. Our club has grown significantly in the last number of years to over 420 playing members and in order to maintain and nurture this growth we require new people to come on board in a capacity that suits them at committee level or coaching.
All are welcome tomorrow evening at 7.30.

U13 C league: Mooncoin 8 Ballinroad 2

After a 9 month absence league football returned for our 13’s. Such a long gap between games but we continued where we left off by scoring a super team goal with great passing involved with captain fantastic Emily on hand to notch our first goal back. A ding ding for 15 mins with the score at 3-2 but we settled into our passing game which allowed our new strike duo to cause havoc Emily went onto score a double hat-rick and Sean adding 2.
Despite the scoreline we were made work really hard for our win by our brave visitors a super squad performance all round. Man of the match Emmet Cusack in he’s first full game of football covered every blade of grass and won endless amounts of ball to allow us play the way we want. Great start back next up bohs.
