A humdinger of a game with goals and chances a plenty. End to end stuff with both teams going at it from the off. An Aaron Mcloughlin hat trick wasn’t enough on a day when soft defending led to a number of goals and a couple of near misses proved the difference in this derby match.

U12 result, Mooncoin Celtic 1 Stradbally 3
A great start to match with only 5 mins on the clock a chip in by Eoin O’Callaghan was headed to net by Mike o Keeffe. We had a few missed chances in first half but didn’t add to our tally and 5 mins from end of the first half we got sloppy on a corner kick and Stradbally took advantage and put it in the back of the net. 2 minutes later another corner for Stradbally which was taken quickly and short to a loose man who took aim and scored . Half time 1-2 to Stradbally. U11 player Anil came on in 2nd half as we tried to play the ball forward in an effort to equalise. A few chances came and went again with no end product. Jamie Croke was a good addition when he came on, getting on a lot of ball and trying to make things happen. Finbar Purcell, another u11 made his u12 debut when he slotted into the defence for an injured Will Cuddihy. Conor Byrne also came on for Emily Blackmore and tried his hardest to get things going. Stradbally sealed the game with a late goal. Kids were exhausted with 5 of lads playing their 4rh match this week. We need to regroup and be ready for cup match on Tuesday in Ballinroad.
Fixtures for the weekend
Tomorrow, u12 home to Stradbally, kick off 10.30
Derek’s team will look to build on last week’s run when they face a Stradbally who nicked a 1-0 win a month ago when the lads visited. Confidence is high, and rightly so as they have been in great form, so hopefully another 3 points will set them up for their cup match on Tuesday evening.
U14 away to Kilmacow, kick off 10.30
An early kick off for Dick and Connie’s squad who are on a nice run at the minute. After toppling the top two in this league recently, can they beat Kilmacow and claim 3rd place themselves? Fingers crossed they can.
Support as always is welcome for all teams.
Our adult and youth player of the year awards aswell as the 2B league medals will be given out tonight at an end of season party in Comerfords. Kicking off at 9pm, all are welcome.
Old drainage
A few pictures of preparation for the drainage works. Look closely at a couple of photos and you’ll see old an old clay drainage pipe probably put in place when the old hurling pitch was being done.
Andrew and the lads are chugging along nicely with the fine weather making the wet winter a distant memory.
U13 cup result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 Railway 4
A disappointing scoreline which doesn’t reflect how the team performed. From the off they took the game to Railway but got hit with a goal against the run of play after 10 minutes. They came back again and pinned back Railway but couldn’t put the ball in the net. Half time came and went with the lads limiting Railway to half chances they kept pushing for that equaliser with the crossbar coming to Railways rescue after a flick from Lee Freyne. After all the pressure, they got hit with a sucker punch when conceding a second goal with 15 minutes remaining. But from the kick off, a long ball by Tom Conway released Lee Freyne who finished to the net and it was game on again. Again the lads pushed Railway back but with gaps being left, there were always a chance of getting exposed on the break. 2 breakaway goals in the last 10 minutes gave Railway a flattering scoreline. A disappointing result but this squad should be proud of the season put in, as many of them have just completed their first season and others had game time limited the previous 2 years. This brings the curtain down on the season for the u13 squad who will be back stronger for next season.
Sod turned again
And they’re off! The lads have sod turned again with the diggers and dumpers motoring on. We will keep everyone up to date with pictures daily if possible. Won’t be long now.
Fixture for tomorrow
U13 cup quarter final: home to Railway, kick off 6.30
A long trip awaits Railway as they travel to face Victors team who turned over a highly fancied Bohs team last Sunday. A similar performance will go very close to securing a semi final spot. This squad would love your support tomorrow evening so please get down and cheer em on. Come on Mooncoin Celtic!

Big thanks to 2b lads Wayne and Robbie and also our youths Jack, Bill, Ben and Sean for dropping down to the session this evening.
Works restart in Suir Crescent
The works have restarted in Suir Crescent with Declan Walsh and sons back on site last week. Fingers crossed this fine weather continues and all drainage works will be completed in a number of weeks and all going well we might even see a bit of grass very soon.
