U16B Boys League:
Kilmacthomas 1 – 3 Mooncoin Celtic

We travelled to Kilmac and found Alaska Park to be windier than usual. Playing with the wind we edged the first 15 mins and when Jamie C picked up a ball on left edge of the box he made no mistake with a great strike to put us ahead.

We dominated the midfield with Liam, Conor and Oisin in control and a ball out to the right found Cathal who cut inside to finish low to the net. 2 up at the break , we faced the gale for the 2nd 40 minutes.

Both teams fought to get on top when a deft pass from Cathal found Jamie G he raced clear to calmly finish. Kilmac threw everything at us and with 15 mins left they capitalised on a mistake to get 1 back. But the defence of Alex,Jack,Luke, Mattie and Tadhg on goal were not going to be beaten again.

A fantastic performance from 1 to 11 saw us bring the 3 points home. Well done team and coaches.

Goals Jamie C, Cathal, Jamie G

Mom. Liam who covered every blade of grass.

Special mention . Jamie G ran all day and was a constant threat.

U12B Boys League: Ferrybank 3 – 2 Mooncoin

A tough one to swallow for the lads today as they led twice in the game and even hit the woodwork in the second half but it wasn’t to be as the ref awarded two goals to Ferrybank, both of which appeared to be offside.

Aaron scored as usual from a free kick in the first half and Harry’s goal was a nice finish at the second time of asking. The signs are encouraging if performances continue like the one today.

U14D Boys League:
Mooncoin 1 – 2 Piltown

The U14’s welcomed local rivals Piltown AFC to Suir Crescent this afternoon. Piltown opened the scoring early in the first half with a shot Bradley could do nothing about. The two teams had plenty of scoring chances and just before half time Ryan Byrne equalised with a superb goal into the top corner!

Piltown kept coming at us and eventually got a second goal mid-way through the second half. Both teams kept pushing forward but unfortunately it wasn’t to be our day. It was a very close game, not much between the teams in the end. Mollie Murphy was outstanding in the defence and Ryan Byrne, Ben Dawson, Cathal & Bradley also had a great game.

Final score Mooncoin 1 – 2 Piltown.

Another placed up in Suir Crescent

Another sign erected in Suir Crescent to acknowledge the assistance received through the Sports Capital Grant program.

Our LED Floodlighting of training areas would not have been possible without this grant of €58,806. A big thank you must go to everyone that helped secure the grant and oversee the project.

Also, thanks to the young man on the spirit level who helped put the sign in place.

U15B Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 5 Villa

A very impressive Villa side turned on the style throughout in Suir Crescent this evening with a few exceptional finishes put away.

Our boys in fairness, kept plugging away, trying to play ball throughout and created a few chances themselves. Only for a number of great saves from U13 keeper Bradley Nolan, it could have been a lot worse.

U12A Girls League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 3 Tramore

An entertaining game took place on Wednesday evening between two evenly matched teams and it swung from end to end from start to finish.

Tramore drew first blood capitalising on a defensive lapse before Lexi Walsh slotted home quickly after. Another slip up at the back saw Tramore lead 2-1 at half time.

The girls went out hopeful of a big second half but got caught on the break to go 3-1 down. The girls battled on and the Tramore keeper kept them out a number of times before Lexi Walsh scored her second and set up a grandstand finish, unfortunately it was too late for any more action.

U11F Boys League: Carrick 2 – 3 Mooncoin

Monday night football was a very tense affair from the kick off this evening.

The lads were up against a physical Carrick side and it wasn’t until late in the first half when a moment of sheer class from Captain Fantasic broke the deadlock. As the ball fell to Billy just inside his own half he struck a long range shot that the keeper could only admire as it looped over his head.

Mooncoin grew into the game after this but Carrick scrambled an equaliser on the break against the run of play. There were few clear cut chances in the second half but 15 minutes in and a cleared ball to the edge of the box fell to the marauding right back Tadhg who struck a sweet half-volley into the bottom corner. It looked as if we’d cruise to victory but Carrick were awarded a late penalty for a handball which was well put away.

At that point it seemed as if the game might end a draw but Oisín was having none of it. The midfield enforcer picked the ball up on the half way line and made a drive for goal past a couple of defenders before striking low and hard for the winner.

Special mention must also go to TJ today on the goal for some excellent saves in the first half particularly.
A hard fought game with a few missing and a few injuries picked up but on we go to play second placed Villa at home next week.

U11d Boys League: St Joseph’s win against Mooncoin Celtic

It was always going to be a tough game against league leaders St Joseph’s but the lads made it hard for themselves straight away when they conceded 2 in the first 2 minutes.

After an underwhelming display in the first half they were determined to try and get something out of the game when Pete Dunphy scored a screamer just past the half way line.

Fair play to all the lads today for a great second half performance and keeping their heads up throughout the game. It is also a valuable lesson to the squad to not treat any team with too much respect or they will get punished for it.
