Ladies League Result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 1 Park Rangers

A game of two halves with a dominant first half put in by our girls but try as they might, that elusive breakthrough eluded them. Chance after chance after chance but no finished product. Park Rangers got on top just before half time and continued their period of dominance by scoring the crucial goal from an angled drive.

The away side continued to stay on top but luckily good goalkeeping and the woodwork kept the score at 1-0. As time ticked on, only a half chance came our way and Park Rangers held out for the 3 points.

A disappointing end to the season but the girls can be proud of the debut season in a really competitive league, especially the second half of the season where the younger girls grew in confidence. Plenty of positives to bring on to next season.

Great start for u14 Schoolboys squad

After a disappointing season last year Mooncoin U14B made a great start at home to Park Rangers, winning 7-5 in their first game on Saturday.

All players impressed with their skills and determination and played a great attacking game and were unlucky not to score more. Goal scorers were: Cathal Morahan – 1, Finn – 2 and Dylan McGrath – 1. Aoibhe Rees was outstanding and scored a hat trick in her debut appearance and is a great asset to the team.

Ladies Cup Result: Carrick United 3 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

On Wednesday evening just gone, the message was clear from the off that this young Mooncoin Celtic Ladies side led by Becky Derwin were in Carrick to take the game to a more experienced Carrick side and flew out of the traps in this 1st round fixture.

An unbelievable effort by all involved in the first half in horrendous conditions saw us go close on many occasions and we played some excellent football along the way.

Sommer Grant went closest with a free kick which was just over. Long range shooting was the only option for Carrick and two speculative efforts were converted on 35 minutes and right on half time which was a tough one to swallow. Somehow we found ourselves 2 down at half time but again this bunch picked up the pace and tried everything to get back in to the game but couldn’t breach the Carrick netminder.

A late deflected effort by Carrick put a flattering look on the final score. A huge effort by all involved in conditions which were not pleasant and very difficult to be playing in near darkness for the last 20 minutes.

Best of luck to Carrick in the semi final against Dungarvan and a big well done to referee Paul Butler for keeping the game moving all night.
We are hopeful of playing our final league fixture against Park Rangers in Suir Crescent next week and await confirmation from the fixtures secretary.

3rd Division Result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 4 Waterford Crystal

A flat performance by all the squad this morning saw an experienced Waterford Crystal side cruise to 3 points in Suir Crescent.

Although we did take the lead through the inform Jamie Moore, Crystal punished us and converted 2 penalties and nicked a 3rd on half time and try as we might, we just couldn’t get going.

Crystal scored a late 4th and deservedly scoop 3 points. A long way to go in this league which will be very competitive.

Ladies League Result: Dungarvan United beat
Mooncoin Celtic

Short a few regular starters did not help our cause but newly crowned champions Dungarvan showed why they are a really class team and showed our girls the level required to lift trophies.

Congratulations to Dungarvan United on winning the League, well deserved.

Well done to our own ladies on forming a guard of honour as Dungarvan left the pitch this evening.

One league game left to play for our ladies, a home fixture against Park Rangers, which should be a cracker going on last week.

We are currently awaiting notification from the league committee on when this game will be played before our Cup fixture against Carrick United in 2 weeks time.

3rd Division Result: Tramore 4 – 4 Mooncoin Celtic

3-0 up within a half an hour thanks to Jamie Moore (2) and Sean Grace saw us in cruise control but disgraceful finishing on our part throughout including a missed penalty and 4 horrendous mistakes saw Tramore deservedly lead 4-3 with minutes left until veteran Johnny McGrath popped up with a header to equalise in the last minute.

Very lucky to come away with a point against a very young Tramore side.

3rd Division Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 1 Piltown

A Derby was on offer in our game this evening in what was a fine evening with two evenly matched teams going at it.

An early goal by Jamie Moore saw us sneak ahead and we should really have been further ahead but poor finishing cost us. A belter of a finish by Joey O’Hanlon from 20 yards put a bit of daylight between the teams and it stayed like that until 5 minutes from the end when Piltown pulled a goal back.

A little wasteful throughout but three points on the board, some great performances this by young players Ryan Kelly and Jay Langford along with veterans Kevin Law and Daniel Synnott.

Tramore away on Sunday morning are next up.

Ladies League Result: Park Rangers 3 – 2 Mooncoin Celtic

These two sides may be sitting bottom of the league but they served up a cracker in Faithlegg and unfortunately we came out the wrong end of it.

A cagey first half hour saw no goals with Park Rangers on top and they broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark capitalising on sloppy defending.

We did create two great chances before half time with Sarah Walsh and Laura Power going close.

The second half was a tight battle but again some slack defending saw Park Rangers stretch their lead and we thought that was it but this young side dug in and got right back in it with Laura Power scoring from distance to get us back in the game.

Park Rangers got a good 3rd goal to put breathing space between the teams again but back came our girls and a corner that was swung in brilliantly by Sommer Grant, was poked home by Becky Derwin.

What looked like a stone wall penalty to everyone in the ground was turned down when Sommer Grant was hacked down right on the edge of the box but a free kick is all was given. Grace O’Toole then pulled off a brilliant save from a penalty and this spurred the girls on to pile on the pressure right until the final whistle with wave after wave of attack not yielding an equaliser.

Some brilliant deliveries by Becky Derwin could not get past a brilliant Park Rangers goalkeeper in the last 10 minutes.

Defeat but brilliant entertainment and well done to Park Rangers on their win.

Great performance by all in the squad with special mention this evening to Laura Power who got a deserved goal and worked tirelessly throughout.
