Ladies Friendly: Kilkenny Interleague 5 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

On a tougher schedule than a World Cup and another physical test for our young side who battled throughout against a very good Kilkenny side managed by Frank Begley.

A solid start saw us match the home side for the first 25 minutes before a very good finish saw Kilkenny take the lead. A couple of lapses in concentration cost us dearly as the more experienced side knocked in three more before half time.

We gathered ourselves at the break and came out much brighter and played some nice football in the second half making 8 changed along the way to get vital experience in to our young side.

Some great displays tonight by Grace O’Toole on goal, Ciara O’Keeffe and Amy Lehane done very well in defence and Becky Connaughton was the pick of the midfield bunch.

Two big tests in two days for this group with lots of positives taken by all involved yesterday against Forth Celtic and tonight against Kilkenny. Great work ladies, keep it up ⚽⚽⚽⚽.

Ladies Friendly against Forth Celtic of Wexford

Wexford Premier league leaders Forth Celtic were our opponents this morning in another pre season friendly and showed their class with some excellent goals scored throughout and their experience was evident for the duration.

Our young side battled throughout, showing real maturity in frustrating Forth and clawed it back to 3-2 from being 3 down just before half time with excellent finishes from Corcoran and Kelly before Forth Celtic turned on the style in the second period and only for Grace O’Toole on goal it could well have been more.

Good 90 minutes under the belt against quality opposition and lots learned by all.

On to the next game tomorrow evening against the Kilkenny Interleague side in Evergreen FC grounds.

Ladies Friendly: Cahir Park 1 – 3 Mooncoin Celtic

Our young ladies side travelled to rain soaked Cahir on Sunday evening and were not to be put off by the non stop down pour.

After a cagey first half with both sides jostling for the breakthrough, it was Cahir Park who took an early lead with a shot from distance that skidded off the surface. Back came the girls and dominated with plenty chances created with goals coming from Ella Brennan, Emily Blackmore and Sommer Grant to send everyone home happy.

Good run out for all 17 on duty with valuable experience gained by our younger girls. Thanks to Cahir Park for hosting us in their fabulous facilities.

U14a Girls League: Piltown 4 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

U14 A Girls We made the short spin yesterday up to Piltown to play the league contenders on their home turf.

Given Piltowns current good form we expected it to be a hard game and sure enough Piltown came at us strong from the start. Piltowns first goal came not long into the game with goal #2 coming later in the first half… our girls battled hard to prevent the consistent attack from Piltown and also managed to break out to attack themselves.

The second half was a similar story with both sets of players pushing hard. Piltown got two more for their persistence in the second half to bring the score to finish at 4-0 to the home side.

While it wasn’t our day to make a mark, it was definitely a step the right direction for this team.

Big thanks to the Piltown coaches, team & referee for nice morning of football
