U17 Girls Munster Shield: Mooncoin Celtic 5 – 1 Carrigaline B

U17 Girls Munster Shield Quarter Final Report.

A good day at the office for the girls today , who from the first kick of the Game imposed themselves on Travelling Carrigaline .

The Homeside opened the scoring on the 10th minute mark when Sommer Grant won a ball in the middle of the pitch and made a Pass to Emily Blackmore who took a touch to set herself up outside the box before shooting to the net .

Carrigaline reacted well and for the following 15 mins both teams battled to take control of the game .

Our back four of Kate McGrath , Eimear Quinn , Sophie Scahill and Niamh Reddy worked very well together today and some great team work saw them keep the visiting attack under control.

On 25 minutes , some clever passing between Ellie Corcoran to Molly Long on the wing allowed Molly to take the ball forward , Molly have the pass to Emily down the wing who worked the ball towards goal to score her second of the day .

Sarah Walsh put in mammoth shift today and was unlucky not to get herself on the score sheet . She pressed forward at every opportunity and contested every ball.

Mooncoin ended the half 3-0 to the good with Emily scoring her third 5 minutes before the break .

Ella Brennan made an immediate impact when she took to the field in the second half and came close to scoring with her first touch of the ball, Luiseach O Donohue worked hard on the wing , and it paid dividends on the on the 70th minute mark when she eagerly contested a ball that was put out and resulted in a corner .

Sommer Grant stood over it and saw her effort finish in the top right corner of the net.

Carrigaline got their first score of the day on 75th minute mark .

Final score on the Day was 5-1 , with both teams putting in a great effort.

U15B Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 1 Kilmacthomas

Many players were asked to undertake unfamiliar positions due to absentees and injuries today. We were unlucky not to go ahead in the first half when Emmet ran on to a long ball his chip of the on rushing keeper going narrowly wide.

Throughout the first half the team defended and we ended the half at 0-0. 15 minutes into the second half Kilmacthomas took the lead to a well placed finish.

We recovered well and pushed till the end creating a number of chances.

Todays performance showed the hard work on the training ground is paying off and the results will follow.

A huge thank you to U13 Bradley and U14 Molly who filled in for us today. Both have earned their place in the team going forward. Bradley pulled off a number of saves including a point blank save at 1-0 to keep us in the game.

Molly worked tirelessly all day and was a stand out performer at left back.

U11D Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 1 Ballinroad

The squad put in a great game against Ballinroad this morning. The lads were dominant throughout.

Shay Moore got a shot denied by a great goal line clearance. Teddy Dunphy and Pete Dunphy also had chances but it wasn’t to be.

Ballinroad got a goal late on in the first half to put them 1-0 up. This only pushed on the team as they showed great fighting spirit in the second half as Shay Moore hit a free kick off of the crossbar with Teddy Dunphy getting denied from the rebound once again from great Ballinroad defending.

The lads lost 1-0 in the end but plenty positives to come from the team as they put in a great effort. Special mention goes to Luke Hennebry who gets Man of the Match today with a great performance in left back

U11F Boys League: St Saviours 0 – 3 Mooncoin Celtic

Shane had the armband for the day against St. Saviour’s who started well with an early chance saved by Tom in goal.

Tadhg struck a shot wide soon after and Shane was unlucky after seizing on a mis-hit goal kick. Late in the half Bobby played a lovely ball down the right to put Donncha in on goal. He had a lot to do but struck low and hard to the keeper’s left at the near post to make it 1-0.

Eight changes at half time and the lads kept the pressure on winning a corner. Liam played it into the box and after a scramble the ball fell to Rueben who finished well from close range.

The third goal came late on with Oisín beating two players on the right side of the area and playing the ball to Liam.

He only had the keeper to beat but with two players bearing down on him had to hit it first time, which he did, low and hard past the goalie for his first of the season.

The game finished 3-0 to Mooncoin who maintain their away winning streak with four wins from four on the road so far.

U13b Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 1 De la Salle

Second match for Mooncoin Celtic u13s in 5 days saw De la Salle u13s visit Suir Crescent.

Mooncoin started strong and pressure resulted in Sam latching on to a square ball from Fionn to slot in past the keeper to go 1 nil up.

Ten mins later and Sam had his second, this time Canice crossed the ball and Sam was sharp to volley home at the back post. De la Salle came back at us with Bradley making a great save.

Just before half time De la Salle pulled back a goal that scrambled just over the line. The second half was cagey and the Mooncoin subs brought some added energy to the team.

A gritty display from all the lads today to see out the win 2-1 with Naoise and Robbie negating a lot of the opposition’s attacks.

Ladies Friendly: Clonmel Celtic 1 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Our young ladies side with a few new additions continued preparations for the upcoming Munster Cup with a tough friendly against an impressive Clonmel Celtic side in Ferryhouse this afternoon.

Plenty chances throughout but that killer instinct in front of goal was the only thing missing today. Big thanks to Jacinta and all in Clonmel Celtic for hosting us.
