Mooncoin representation in Waterford Dev Squads at the Weekend

Well done to all players and coaches from the club who were involved with the Waterford league at U12, U14 and u16 level last weekend.

Hannah Dobbyn was on u12 duty, we Molly Murphy, Stephanie Phelan and Áine Connery as well as coaches Dee Travers and Richard Long at u14s.

While Emily Blackmore, Aoibhe Rees and Ella Brennan were with the U16s.

We have to give a special mention to the hat trick hero Emily Blackmore who notched a treble for the U16s.

U11F Boys League: St Josephs 0 – 4 Mooncoin Celtic

James was captain for today’s game as the boys turned out in red against a resolute St Joseph’s side.

Mooncoin dominated play from the early stages but couldn’t find the finishing touch in the whole of the first half with Rueben and Liam unlucky to have their efforts blocked or saved.

The deadlock was broken by Shane however whose strike high into the goal almost burst the net early in the second half. A second followed soon after with Shane flying down the wing once more and playing the ball to Eoin who squared it for Tadhg to slot home.

He got his second soon after cutting in from the right and finishing smartly past the keeper. The final goal saw Shane played in by Eoin and score only to be ruled out initially.

However on reflection the referee deemed him to be onside so the goal stood. A great day out for the boys and back to winning ways. Two for Shane, two for Tadhg and a hat trick of assists for Eoin. 4-0 to Mooncoin.

U11D Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 2 Dungarvan United

A cracker of a game in sunny Suir Crescent this morning with the game flowing from end to end.

Dungarvan were quickest out of the traps and grabbed an early lead and held it until just before half time when Pete Dunphy scored a cracking free kick.

The second half saw Teddy Dunphy continue his goal scoring run when he slotted home but back came Dungarvan and they equalised with a few minutes remaining. Great entertainment from both sides.

U13b Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 3 – 1 Piltown

Mooncoin Celtic u13s welcomed Piltown to Suir Crescent this afternoon and it was always going to be a competitive battle.

With three minutes on the clock a corner from Piltown produced a great save from Will but the rebound was scrambled home. The lads heads didn’t drop and after a few minutes a brave 50/50 by Tommy with the Piltown keeper led to Tommy getting his deserved goal.

The match was hard fought with Mooncoin defending plenty of good Piltown corners and a goal line clearance by Naoise saved a bizarre chance. Just before half time a foul on the left wing led to a superb free kick by Sam which was too high for the keeper to keep out and Mooncoin went into the break 2-1 up.

The game opened up in the second half and following a disallowed offside goal, Fionn struck again to ease the nerves.

A few good saves from Bradley in the last ten minutes saw the game out with all of the squad playing their part today.

U12B Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 3 Hibernians

Viktor was captain for the visit of Hibernian to Suir Crescent over the weekend. We were on the back foot within a minute of kick off with the visitors scoring with an unstoppable header from a corner.

They scored two more goals before the break, both following goal mouth scrambles.

The second half was a far more even contest albeit with no goals to show for it. Special mention for Dylan on the goal for a superb double save late on. The game finished 3-0 to the away team.

U14b Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 0 Kilmacow

The first fine day in months brought out the best in both Mooncoin and Kilmacow teams, as they played out a thriller of a derby, with Mooncoin taking the win 1 nil.

The first half was tight, with Kilmacow starting the better, but Mooncoin grew into the game and had a couple of shots just head wide. Eoin T was super in this 1st half.

0-0 at half time but 30 secs into the 2nd half and Conor W. had a fine shot that was well saved by the keeper. Soon after Conor had another shot that just whisked wide.

At the back Mooncoin were very solid with birthday boy Will W cleaning up everything behind a brilliant defence.

Mooncoin were on top and a sharp tackle then pass by Sam, saw Charlie M. pick up the ball just outside the D, and a quick swivel and hard high shot saw the ball hit the back of the net. A great goal to get Mooncoin ahead, and from here the team dug in.

To be expected Kilmacow came on strong, but this left room for breaks and Sean, Will Mc and Robbie exploited it, with Robbie going very close to grabbing a second.

The last few minutes saw everyone in defence and as the final whistle went there was great joy in celebrating a first win of the year.

U16B League: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 0 Ferrybank

Our first game in over 6 weeks and our first home game of the season had Ferrybank come to Suir Cresent.

A perfect day for football the game started with both teams trying to get into the swing of things after both having such a long break. We shaded the early exchanges and when Anil broke down the left after 15 mins his cross found Aidan who bundled home to put us in front.

The rest of the 1st half was nip and tuck with both defences on top. Ferrybank came at us in the 2nd half and we had to dig in. The mid field of Billy,Sean,Oisin,Liam and Luke broke up attack after attack as Ferrybank pushed for a leveller.

Anything that got past was ably dealt with by Alex,Jack, Finbar,Mattie ,
Cathal and Tadgh in defence. Upfront Jamie and Jimmy worked hard to provide an out ball.

The lads efforts saw us keep a clean sheet and with it a 1.0 win. A great result and nice to get 2023 off on a win.

The work rate of all 15 today was second to none.

Goals : Aidan Carroll

Mom : Jamie Grace, outstanding with and without the ball.

Special mentions for Aidan and entire defence.

U14D Boys League:
Bohs 1 – 3 Mooncoin Celtic

Our U14B’s travelled to Bohs this afternoon and after a slow start Mooncoin soon found their stride. Both teams played a brilliant attacking game, with Mooncoin having plenty of opportunities.

Bradley Nolan was unlucky to concede a goal just before half time. After making a few positional changes at half time, Mooncoin came back at them in the second half.

Finn Foskin opened Mooncoin’s scoring when he converted a penalty. Minutes later Finn made it 2-1 to Mooncoin with his second goal and Cathal Morahan made it 3-1 with another great goal. We had two goal line clearances from Bradley Nolan and Larry O’Brien when we took our eye off the ball just before the final whistle!!

Everyone played great and the players that really stood out today were Conor Phelan and Larry O’Brien.
