3rd Division: Waterford Crystal 1 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic
We travelled to the Crystal grounds to face the title challengers and can count ourselves very unlucky not to come away with a point at least. A disciplined performance throughout frustrated Crystal while a few chances came our way without the finished product.
87 minutes on the clock and it looked like a stalemate but the experience of the evergreen Davy Squealer Walsh winning a free out wide with the resulting delivery producing the winner with Jake Moore just beaten to it by the Crystal player.
Disappointing result but a very encouraging and much improved display from all today.
U12A Girls league: Carrick United 1 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic
Our Green Team were away in Carrick this morning and very unlucky to lose 1-0. Plenty of chances throughout for our girls.
Keep the heads up girls… We’ll get there!!! ⚽⚽⚽
Boys U14B League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 4 Villa
First game since October and considering the rain and wet conditions we started well even though we were missing 2 key players. Cathal Morahan opened the scoring with a superb goal. Villa got 2 back before half time and got 2 more in the 2nd half. Jay dunphy got a cracking goal to make it 2-4 at full time. Sophie Scahill was outstanding in defence today.
Players and Coaches on Gaynor Cup duty
Big well done to all our players and coaches who were on Gaynor Cup duty against North Tipperary at U12 and U14 level last weekend. Hannah Dobbyn was on duty with the u12s up in Birdhill while Molly Murphy,
Áine Connery and Stephanie Phelan were on U14 duty in the Villa along with club coaches Dee Travers, Richard Long and Derek Tebay.
Youths League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 2 Villa A
Today we had the mighty task of facing up to Villa A in Suir Crescent.
We asked the lads to embrace this fixture and work on our defensive game and try hold Villa, who we knew would try to play football for the whole 90mins.
The team applied themselves brilliantly throughout the game and only conceded two goals near the end.
Lots of positives from the game today and a few things to work on in training, we would be confident this group should do well in the coming months. All the team put in a big performance today but MOTM goes to Lee Freyne playing in a sweeper position for the first time.
Girls U17 League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 4
Bohemians
A tough day at the office for the u17 girls today when we met Bohs in the top of the league clash.
There was nothing between the teams for the majority of the first half until Bohs put away a well worked goal.
Unfortunately in the second half we were well off the pace and Bohs capitalised on our mistakes with another 3 goals to win 4-0. A lot to be learned and taken from todays performance which we will take into our next match.
Girls U14 B League;
Ballyduff 2 – 3 Mooncoin Celtic
After over 2 months without a game it was time to blow off the cobwebs. Alexi Walsh opened the scoring on her U14 debut ably assisted by Síofra Crosse leaving Mooncoin 1 up at half time.
Ballyduff upped their game in the second half and equalised early on. Two further goals from Mooncoin through Ciara Lynch and some staunch defending resulted in a 3-2 win for the girls and three points.
