This coming Sunday at 12 noon in the RSC in Waterford, our ladies team will compete in the Munster Shield Final against Limerick club Ashling Annacotty. This is a huge day for the club, probably the biggest in our 57 year history. We are asking every man, woman and child in Mooncoin to get to the RSC on Sunday to shout on these girls to glory. Please do your best to support and tell all your family and friends to support too.
Massive thank you Ms McInerney and all the staff at Scoil Mhuire for having us this morning to show all the students the trophies won in recent weeks. Great interaction had with all and some good questions out forward by the kids.
Dungarvan Utd 8 Mooncoin Celtic 1 After the heroics in Clare, it was back to business in the local league with the first league game played in hot conditions in Abbeyside FC against a very good Dungarvan team. They showed their class throughout and rattled in some class goals throughout. Emily Blackmore got our only goal on the night.
U13D Cup Final Mooncoin Celtic 2 Ballyduff 1 A tight tense game was anticipated and it certainly played out that way with no goals in normal time but we had plenty chances through Seanie, Billy and Tyler hit the post with a header. Extra time kicked off and Lexi released Billy from the start and he made no mistake after breaking away from the defence. We had another couple of chances but didn’t take them and paid the price with Ballyduff equalising from long range. The second period came and we peppered the Ballyduff goal but to no avail with penalties looking likely but Seanie had other ideas as he jinxed his way in to the box and rifled home the winner to clinch the cup and also the double. Great scenes after the game as Jonathan raised the Mitchell Kennedy cup aloft and Tyler raised the league trophy. Some great memories created by this squad which had a sprinkling of different ages and characters. McDonald’s played host to the after party with singing and dancing aplenty. 🏆🏆
That brings the curtain down on our underage season with one league and two cups clinched 🏆🏆🏆, we had four teams finish second in their leagues, we were beaten in two other cup finals, beaten in 6 cup semi finals too. A decent underage season overall.
History Made as Our Ladies Team Become the First in the Club to Reach a Munster Final! On Friday night, our Ladies team made history, becoming the first ever from the club to reach a Munster Final after a dramatic and hard-fought victory away to Tulla in the *Munster Shield Semi Final* .
Through sheer determination, passion, and hard work, this group has grown into something truly special. Despite being the stronger side from the outset, we found ourselves 2-0 down inside the opening 30 minutes. But in true Mooncoin spirit, the girls refused to drop their heads. Their desire to fight back was relentless. Wave after wave of pressure followed, and their efforts were finally rewarded in the 55th minute when a free kick from Becky Connaughton was spilled by the Tulla goalkeeper, and Emily Blackmore reacted quickest to slot home and put us back in the game. From that moment on, the belief and work ethic of the team were unmistakable. Every player dug deep. With just five minutes left on the clock, that belief paid off—Emily threaded a perfectly timed through ball to Ella Brennan, who made no mistake and hammered home the equaliser. Mooncoin had fought their way back. And were rewarded with a chance to build on that with extra time .
As the match went into extra time, legs were tired, but hearts were strong. The girls, now full of confidence, continued to push forward. Their persistence paid off again when Ella’s corner caused chaos in the box and Becky got the decisive touch to put us ahead for the first time in the match.
Tulla weren’t done yet, and it took a fantastic low save from Abbie Hassett to keep our lead intact. But Mooncoin kept pushing. Our fourth came when another excellent corner from Ella found Shauna Mullowney at the back post, who showed great composure to tee up Hannah Carroll—who unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box to score her first goal for this Ladies Team. And what a time to get it! It was a phenomenal team performance—one built on fight, heart, and unshakable determination. Every player left everything on the pitch. The desire to win and the work rate shown throughout proved why this group of players have earned their place in a Munster Final. We now await the winners of the other semi-final between Aisling Annacotty and Riverstown . Preparation is well and truly underway and the squad was back training last night . The Munster finals will take place on July 13th .

U14 Cup Final Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 Villa 1 (AET) Drama of the highest order last Saturday evening in Tramore with young Jack T climbing highest to head a last second equaliser to send the crowd wild. Further drama was to follow in extra time with Ali battling to send Aaron D through to slide home the winner and win the Cup. Well deserved win for a good bunch of boys.
U16 Girls Result Tramore 7 Mooncoin Celtic 1 Title chasing Tramore proved too strong despite us taking an early lead through Anna R and having a few chances early on . A lot of this squad are under age again next season so experience gathered this season should stand to them. Congratulations to Tramore who deservedly won the League.
Clover Tournament Our young academy boys kindly Sponsored by Eastgate Engineering took part in the Ferrybank Clover Tournament which was run by the evergreen Mick Mullowney who continues to do a marvellous job every year. Lots of fun was had by the boys with them getting a win in their third game after two defeats.
What a day to celebrate girls soccer with the hosting of our first U11 Girls Tournament with the Watmór Cup on offer for the winners. 16 teams split in to four groups of 4 teams and 24 group games starting at 9.45 were played out with thrills and spills a plenty. Quarter finals followed with the dreaded penalties coming in to play with Southend and Ferrybank unfortunately exiting the competition in shootouts, Mooncoin Celtic and Ballinroad were also knocked out in the quarter finals. Tipperary outfit Clonmel Town were strong throughout but met a determined Park Rangers out fit in the semi final who met Villa in the final after Villa beat Tramore in the other semi final tie. The Champions League music blared out as both teams entered the pitch and a tense game followed with Villa edging it 2-1 and taking home the Watmór Perpetual Cup. Beatrice Lynch of Park Rangers picked up the player of the tournament award which was kindly Sponsored by Sheridan’s Trophies. A truly amazing morning to see 160 girls showcasing all that is good about soccer, fun and lots of it. We have to thank Kilkenny County Council for their help with a Community Event Grant which helped cover the running costs for the day. Also, thanks to Watmór Construction and Civil LTD for their continued support for the club. Thank you must go to all that helped with parking, setting up today and clean up afterwards. No ref…no game, we were very lucky to have four volunteers give their time to make sure it ran smoothly and ref 31 games between them. DJ Scoosh deserves a 👏 for her usual entertainment and of course a wee bit of drama along the way. Thank you to Sonya of Wild Willow Coffee for parking up and ensuring all were catered for on a sunny morning. A final thank you to all participating clubs, their supporters, their coaches and most importantly the young girls who played this morning. Hope to see you all again next year.
