A determined coaching duo of Kevin Kennedy and Pat Walsh had a well drilled squad travelling to the seaside town of Stradbally for an early kick off and they had one thing on their mind and that was a cup final. Not the prettiest of games but at the end of the day, who cares? A Ben Brennan goal in the first half was the difference between the two sides and a hard slog of a season brings the reward of a cup final next Thursday in Tramore at 7pm against near neighbours Kilmacow. A fantastic achievement for both coaching and playing squad. A big squad with an even bigger spirit deserve a big reward for their hard graft in the muck of Ashgrove all season long.
If at all possible, please please please, get out to Tramore next Thursday evening for what will be the clubs second u12 cup final in a row against Kilmacow. Kick off is 7pm.
WSFL Under 14 Cup Mooncoin Celtic 0 vs Ballinroad 1
The curtain came down on what can only be described as a very good season. An end to end clash in Ashgrove this afternoon. We started off slow today but got into our stride as the game went on. We were unlucky not to score on three occasions but a resilient Ballinroad goalkeeper played the game of his life to keep a clean sheet and pulled off brilliant saves. We knocked on the door time and time again but we couldn’t break the deadlock. A scrappy enough goal was the difference between the two teams today. Great advertising for underage football. We now have a few weeks to regroup and add to the squad and next season will be an exciting one for this bunch. The squad today as follows: Adam Conway, Ciara O’Keeffe, Tom Conway, Mikey Cronin, Liam Hogan, Denis Kinsella, Alex Bailey, Lee Freyne, Sean Lennon, Conor Dermody, Sam Hartwell, Matthew Morahan, Daniel Roberts, Eoin O’Callaghan. The management team would like to thank everyone for their hard work and it’s been fantastic watching the development of this squad. And we are looking forward to next season already! Big thanks to Ballinroad today for a great game and Noel Lavery who took charge of the game.

U15 Cup Result: Mooncoin Celtic 3 Bohs B 2
An absolute thriller of a cup tie was played in breezy Ashgrove this evening with a semi final spot at stake.
A dream start by the lads through a Kieran Fagan goal after 5 minutes had them in coast mode but no Bohs side will lie down and the lads from Poleberry came back and equalized and then deservedly took a 2-1 lead going in at half time.
With their season on a knife edge, stern words at half time riled the lads up but Bohs set out their stall to hold on to the lead and the boys could only muster half chances one after another. With 10 minutes remaining, disaster struck with Bohs being awarded a penalty for a handball but the gods were looking down on us this evening when the penalty whistled wide.
Back came the boys and with everything being thrown at a resolute Bohs defence it didn’t look good. One minute into injury time an absolute cracker from Kyle Kennedy from all of 30 yards drew the sides level and most likely extra time would be required but in the 4th minute of injury Ryan O’Grady with another cracker from 20 odd yards broke Bohs hearts and sent the watching crowd and bench wild with delight. Heart stopping stuff but a great advertisement for Schoolboys football. Men of the Match must go to the injury time goalscorers, Ryan and Kyle.
A semi final awaits against newly crowned league champions St Paul’s in a couple of weeks once the junior cert exams are finished.
