U17 Girls League: Villa 2 – 6 Mooncoin Celtic

The u17 girls travelled to villa today and from the first whistle our girls worked as a team and supported each other from front to back. Emily Blackmore took her first chance from a free kick outside the box which was slotted perfectly into the net.

The girls continued to work hard and won another free this time on the left wing. Sommer Grant was next to have shot and saw her excellent driving free kick hit the back of the net. Our third goal came from some excellent play on the right wing from Emily and Sommer to set up Sarah Walsh who slotted the ball with pin point accuracy into the bottom corner.

In the second half more of the same and Emily scored her second with a long range shot on her left foot. We then failed to press a villa player who scored to bring it back to 4-1.

Our girls reacted to this in the perfect way with a fantastic run down the right wing from Aoibhe Rees who crossed it in to Sommer Grant who slotted home her second of the match. Our final goal came from a half way line break from Aoibhe Rees who fired home for our 6th.

Villa got a second goal in the final moments of the match. Huge effort by all our girls, every single girl was excellent today to earn another 3 points.

U14 Girls A League: Park Rangers win at Mooncoin Celtic

For this U14 Girls A League game we went to Park Rangers with the bare 11 but hopeful of getting something out of the game.

A sluggish performance saw us concede a large number of goals on the day. The defence fought hard all game but were under a lot of pressure from midfield runners. Credit to Park Rangers who out worked us on the day.

Goal scored on the day for us by a stunning free kick from Ellie Thompson.

U14 Girls B League: Mooncoin Celtic win at Park Rangers

Our last league game of the season for our u14 white girls, and it did not disappoint. Ciara Lynch got the ball rolling with her first of the day. Leah Twomey who has excelled in just about every position this campaign added another, followed shortly by Ciara’s second. Lexi scored her first just before half time.

Park Rangers never dropped their heads and got two back, but Lexi put daylight between the sides again with her second of the day. Anna Reddy scored her customary goal with a superb half volley, giving the keeper no chance.

And for the second game in a row there was just enough time for Alexi to seal her hat trick. The goal scorers always get the plaudits but this is a team game and the whole squad have been excellent throughout our league campaign and remain unbeaten in our home ground of Suir Crescent.

U14D Boys League: Waterford Crystal 2 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

The U14B team travelled to Crystal Park on Saturday afternoon. Very close game was played out.

Jay Dunphy put mooncoin ahead midway through the 1st half, but Waterford Crystal got an equaliser soon after.

Second half was tight we gave away a penalty in the 2nd half, which Crystal scored to give them the lead and win. Good performance by all on duty. Molly Murphy, Tom Cuddihy & Conor Holohan in particular played great.

U12C Boys League: Bohemians 4 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Seanie captained the lads for the early kick off in Ben Wadding Park. A sluggish start from the lads unfortunately saw them concede two avoidable goals in the first ten minutes.

They shored things up at the back thereafter but conceded from a free kick on the stroke of half time. In the second half they played far better and were unlucky not to score with a header from Tadhg.

Bohemians scored a fourth however to make it a day to forget. 4-0 final score to the home team. Credit to Tyler in the goal for his heroics particularly in the first twenty minutes.

3A League: Mooncoin Celtic 3 – 0 Kilbarry Rangers

After last week’s disappointing result in the cup against St Paul’s, the players wanted to right a few wrongs and did it very well.

From start to finish, they really performed as a team, giving title hopefuls Kilbarry no time at all to settle in to the game. A Jamie Moore free kick sent us on our way, quickly followed by a Ryan Carroll header and we could have been further ahead only for poor finishing. Second half saw similar effort and pressure from the boys and a Jason Sauvage long range effort finished the game as a contest.

Really good performance and end to the season by all on duty, Man of the match must go to Chris’Mick McCarthy ‘ O’Hanlon for his efforts throughout.
