2B Result: BOHEMIANS FC 1-4 MOONCOIN CELTIC.

It was a bitterly cold night in Wadding park tonight but that did not refrain the Mooncoin march to finish out the first half of the season unbeaten. Bohs played large parts of the first half in possession, constantly looking for a defense splitting pass that unfortunately for them, were knocking on the wrong door.

It was Mooncoin who took the lead, a penalty was awarded and penalty supremo Kipper O’Brien arrowed it into the top left corner of the net. Shortly after it was 2-0, Kelly whipped in a free kick from the right and Kavanagh headed into the far corner of the net and that’s how it stayed until half time. The opening quarter of an hour seen us slow out of the blocks and Bohs got one back with a shot from distance. Defiantly, our togetherness was not shattered, we push and pressed and eventually Synnott gave a ball to Kevin Walsh, he turn onto his preferred right foot, his shot was deflected and looped into the Bohs net. To seal the deal there was a mix up at the back for the home side, the ball fell for Synnott and he slotted it home for a comfortably victory.

Man of the match Johnny Kavanagh work tirelessly from start to finish and was a stand out performance on the night. It has been a very rewarding first half to the season for the squad who have yet to fall behind in a game all season and have picked up 25 out of a possible 27 points .

Well done to all the squad .

2B Result MOONCOIN CELTIC 4-0 DE LA SALLE

In a season that Mooncoin boast the meanest defence in the WJL, the pressure was on today to continue our strong defensive displays. A 19 man squad took to Ashgrove in an attempt to open up a gap at the top of the table. De La Salle started the first 10 minutes on top but without threatening the Mooncoin defence. On the quarter of an hour mark it was 1-0 to the home side, Savauge put a ball into the box, Kipper O’Brien placed an unchallenged header into the corner of the net. Shortly after it was 2-0 Synnott placed it across the box to R. Walsh, his shot was parried away and Kavanagh placed it into the net on the rebound. We were in command thereafter and on 40 minutes a mix up at the back left Wally Walsh clear in on goal who tapped into an empty net.

The second half seen chances rued in abundance from Mooncoin. For long periods of the game our passing was nice to watch and with the introduction of Ryan, Sweeney and O’Keeffe, all made positive impacts and the scoreline could of been a lot more. On 70 minutes Sweeney put a great ball into Kavanagh, his header hit the cross bar and Synnott finished off the move. Impressive 3pts picked up today which moves us 4pts clear at the top.

2B result: CARRICK UTD 1-3 MOONCOIN CELTIC.

Today our 2B side travelled to Carrick United knowing a win would take us top of table and following a 6 weeks with no fixture we got off to a slow start. For most of the first half Carrick retained possession but it was Mooncoin who were posing the most treat. Kevin Walsh gave us a great start after 15 minutes. A ball was whipped into the box by Synnott, met the head of Walsh who looped a header over the keeper and into the left corner of the net. By the half hour mark it was 2-0. Mooncoin broke away from deep inside their half, Synnott passed a ball across the box to Kevin Walsh and from 10 yards out made no mistake placing it into the bottom left corner.

Carrick clawed one back just before half time from a free kick. The ball was whipped into the box and headed home. In the second half Mooncoin found a foothold in the game. Substitutes Kavanagh, Doyle, R. Walsh and Savauge made positive impacts in the half.

It was Kavanagh who sealed the game at the death with a nice header from a free kick from Savauge to give us a fantastic result on what was a very murky afternoon in Tom Drohan Park.

Next up is De La Salle tomorrow week at home. TEAM: Tebay, L.Walsh, C.O’Hanlon, McGrath, J. O’Hanlon, Howley, Kelly, O’Brien, Synnott, K. Walsh, É. Walsh. SUBS: (all used) Kavanagh, Doyle, R. Walsh, Savauge, Moore.
