Mooncoin Pubs League Final Result
Maisie’s 1 The Auld Rogue 1
Maisie’s win 4-2 on penalties
This game started at a frantic pace with a youthful Auld Rogue side going at the more experienced Maisie’s. Just as the game settled down, Maisie’s were awarded a dubious penalty which Paul Phelan slotted home. The second half saw Maisie’s keep The Rogue at bay but with Kyle Doherty pulling the strings, there was always a chance of an equalizer. With two minutes left on the clock, a deflected effort from Doherty crept past Dean Purcell to send the game into extra time but not before a pure piece of brilliance from Paul Phelan for Maisie’s when he hit a 50 yard shot that rattled the post in the last minute. Extra time produced little as both teams sat back with David Sheridan missing a sitter to win it for Maisie’s. The shoot out was always going to be a lottery with Dean Purcell being the hero saving two spot kicks and scoring 1 to win it for Maisie’s.
This brings the curtain down on this years pubs league with Mick Cummins leading his team to the trophy once again. Stephen Bible for Maisie’s won the man of the match award for his towering display at centre back.
Two Pubs League semi finals
The two semi finals were played in excruciating heat this evening in Ashgrove with The Rose of Mooncoin and The Auld Rogue from Carrick playing out the first one. Little between them in the first half and it always looked like the first goal would be crucial. The Auld Rogue were the team to break the deadlock and tagged on their second with time just up.
The second game was a repeat of last years final with Doyle’s and Maisie’s going at it. Again little between the two in the first half but the second half showed why Maisie’s are favourites for the competition as Mick Cummins team notched two goals in the last 10 minutes to secure their place in the final.
Disappointment for both local teams but the better teams won out on the night.
The final Saturday evening should be a cracker as The Auld Rogue from Carrick will be looking to clinch their first Pubs league title while Mick Cummins has Maisie’s back in the final hoping to go one better this year. Kick off is 7.15 and we can more or less guarantee good weather for it. See ye all Saturday evening.
Maisie’s notching another 4-0 win dispatch of The Old Forge
A sunny evening in Ashgrove produced goals aplenty with Maisie’s notching another 4-0 win as they easily dispatched The Old Forge from Tramore.
The second game was a tight affair as The Sweep and Doyle’s jostled for a semi final spot. 1-1 with a couple of minutes left on the clock when the mighty Martin Spud Murphy popped up with the winner to send the crowd wild.
The semi finals take place Thursday evening with The Auld Rogue v The Rose of Mooncoin at 6.45 followed at 8pm with Doyle’s and Maisie’s which is a repeat of last years final. Two tasty games for all to enjoy.
Pub League QF
The two games this evening had semi final spots at stake with the Auld Rogue beating the Royal oak on a flattering scoreline of 3-0. An off colour Rogue side still had enough to progress where they’ll meet The Rose of Mooncoin. The Rose and O’Neill’s from Tramore went at it for the hour but the class of Mark O’Keeffe won the day with him scoring the two goals in a 2-0 win.
Highlight of the evening was some exquisite goalkeeping from one Thomas O’Brien!
Tomorrow evening sees Maisie’s face The Old Forge from Tramore at 6.45 while The Sweep and Doyle’s go toe to toe at 8.00
Pubs League local derby
Tonights game threw up a local derby with Comerfords B facing a youthful Doyle’s side. In scorching conditions, it was the youthful Doyle’s that progressed on a well deserved scoreline of 2-0. Highlight of the evening was probably the hat trick of finishes from Martin Murphy which was disallowed due to offside.
Quarter finals kick off on Monday evening with The Royal Oak facing The Auld Rogue at 6.45. This will be followed at 8.00 with O’Neill’s against The Rose of Mooncoin. Tuesday evening will see Maisie’s v The Old Forge at 6.45 and Doyle’s v The Sweep at 8.00.
