U14 cup result: Mooncoin Celtic 3 St Paul’s 3, St Paul’s win 3-2 on penalties.

A superb advertisement for schoolboy cup football in Ashgrove this evening where our u14 squad gave it their all but came a cropper in the dreaded penalty shoot out.
A scoreless first half with both sides cancelling each other out. The second half started a blistering pace and up popped Aaron McLaughlin with a bullet of a goal from 25 yards. The lead was short lived with Paul’s equalizing within 5 minutes. A golden chance fell to Adam Conway with a minute of normal time left put he couldn’t get a proper header on it.

Extra time was only a couple of minutes in when Adam Conway jinxed his way around a couple of Paul’s players to put the boys 2-1 up. The second period started with the boys still on top and Robbie Harrington danced past defenders to make it 3-1. Game over we thought….four minutes on the clock and St Paul’s got a penalty, 3-2. From kick off Paul’s were awarded a free kick just outside the box and hung it up in the top corner. On to the shoot out where Paul’s progressed.

A disappointing outcome but this squad should be proud of the display this evening.

Fixtures for the week:

Fixtures for the week:
Tomorrow, u12 cup away to Ballinroad, kick off 6.30
This squad will look to put Saturdays tired defeat behind them and set themselves up for a good cup run. Well capable of matching the best in this league so a decent performance will see a quarter final spot secured.
U14 away to Portlaw, kick off 6.30
After Saturdays derby defeat, this squad will be hoping yo bounce back and secure 3 points against a side they beat 3-1 only 3 weeks ago.
Best of luck to both sides and if you are idle tomorrow evening, your support would be most welcome.

U14 result: Kilmacow 4 Mooncoin Celtic 3

A humdinger of a game with goals and chances a plenty. End to end stuff with both teams going at it from the off. An Aaron Mcloughlin hat trick wasn’t enough on a day when soft defending led to a number of goals and a couple of near misses proved the difference in this derby match.

U12 result, Mooncoin Celtic 1 Stradbally 3

A great start to match with only 5 mins on the clock a chip in by Eoin O’Callaghan was headed to net by Mike o Keeffe. We had a few missed chances in first half but didn’t add to our tally and 5 mins from end of the first half we got sloppy on a corner kick and Stradbally took advantage and put it in the back of the net. 2 minutes later another corner for Stradbally which was taken quickly and short to a loose man who took aim and scored . Half time 1-2 to Stradbally. U11 player Anil came on in 2nd half as we tried to play the ball forward in an effort to equalise. A few chances came and went again with no end product. Jamie Croke was a good addition when he came on, getting on a lot of ball and trying to make things happen. Finbar Purcell, another u11 made his u12 debut when he slotted into the defence for an injured Will Cuddihy. Conor Byrne also came on for Emily Blackmore and tried his hardest to get things going. Stradbally sealed the game with a late goal. Kids were exhausted with 5 of lads playing their 4rh match this week. We need to regroup and be ready for cup match on Tuesday in Ballinroad.

Fixtures for the weekend

Tomorrow, u12 home to Stradbally, kick off 10.30
Derek’s team will look to build on last week’s run when they face a Stradbally who nicked a 1-0 win a month ago when the lads visited. Confidence is high, and rightly so as they have been in great form, so hopefully another 3 points will set them up for their cup match on Tuesday evening.
U14 away to Kilmacow, kick off 10.30
An early kick off for Dick and Connie’s squad who are on a nice run at the minute. After toppling the top two in this league recently, can they beat Kilmacow and claim 3rd place themselves? Fingers crossed they can.
Support as always is welcome for all teams.

Our adult and youth player of the year awards aswell as the 2B league medals will be given out tonight at an end of season party in Comerfords. Kicking off at 9pm, all are welcome.
