Ladies Munster Junior Cup: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 2 Castleview AFC

A disappointing result for our young ladies side who should be very proud of their efforts against a decent Cork outfit. We flew out of the traps and took the lead on 10 minutes through Emily Blackmore’s tidy finish under the keeper.

Castleview came more in to the game and equalised midway through the half after a lapse in concentration. Just before half time we conceded a penalty which castleview tucked away to lead at half time.

The second half saw us dominating but try as we might we could not get that equaliser with Sarah Corcoran going closest in the last few minutes. A disappointing dressing room afterwards but all involved should be very proud of their performance. Best of luck to Castleview in the competition and a massive thank you to all who helped and supplied refreshments after the game.

Youths League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 5 Bohemians

On Sunday morning we welcomed Bohs to a sunny Suir Crescent with the hope of getting a point or three on the board. It was our first game in four weeks and in fairness we did well in the plan of containing and frustrating Bohs to a limited amount of chances.

At half time we were happy but worried about the amount of easy corners we were giving away and felt if we keep giving them away cheaply Bohs would capitalize eventually, which they did at the start of the 2nd half.

We were a little unlucky we lost our sweeper Lee Freyne who was having a very good game through injury. The most disappointing part of this 5-0 defeat is that we dropped our head too easy after the first goal, yes Bohs deserved to win but not in such an easy manner.

We have a lot of soul searching to do as a group this week as we had been making so good progress and we have to bounce back in positive fashion in next weekend’s game.

U13b Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 3 – 3 Kilmacow

Football is full of clichés and today was a great example. A local u13 derby saw Kilmacow arrive in Suir Crescent.

Mooncoin got out of the blocks quickly and Sam added to his goals tally this season with a direct goal from a corner after 2 minutes.

Few minutes later and Shane played a deft ball through for Tommy to slot cooly past the keeper. Just before 15 minutes were on the clock Tommy became provider with James blasting the ball in to the back of the net to deservedly score his debut goal. The first half ended 3 nil up.

Mooncoin knew that Kilmacow would come out stronger in the second half and 2 similar goals through the middle gave Kilmacow plenty of confidence. 5 minutes later and a speculative hit nestled in the top of the Mooncoin goal.

If it wasn’t for a last minute block from Robbie, the game might not have finished a draw.

Football is a funny old game and it certainly was a game of 2 halves today. Well done to both sides for an entertaining match.

U11F Boys League: Villa 4 – 5 Mooncoin Celtic

Thrilla at the Villa

Captain Rueben led the front line away to Villa earlier today. The home team pressed us back in the early stages and got their reward with a well taken goal after we failed to clear our lines. Mooncoin came to life and began to control the game with Donncha, Billy and Eoin W taking thr game by the scruff of the neck.

A good ball was played through to Rueben who got ahead of the defender but was fouled heavily from behind. The resulting free kick was taken by Liam Mc who struck a lovely effort high into the top corner to equalise. 1-1 at the break.

Fresh legs came on in the second half and Mooncoin won an early corner. Eoin B hit it in low to the box and it travelled all the way to Shane on the far post for a tap in.

Villa weren’t done and scored their second and third soon after to equalise and subsequently take the lead. Mooncoin battled forward again and after a scramble the ball fell to Tadhg who hammered the ball into the corner. Some confusion followed but the ref allowed the goal to stand.
Villa pushed on again and got down the left and young Calvin struck an unstoppable shot past our keeper for his fourth for the home team.

With minutes left it felt as if Villa were playing down the clock with numerous throws on the right side. Eoin managed to square the ball for Shane in the box, who played it to Tom, the goalscoring goalkeeper and he coolly slotted home for 4-4. Not content with a draw, the lads pressed on and won a corner in the dying seconds.

Donncha whipped in a lovely high cross which the Villa centre back headed into his own goal. Cue wild celebrations. An epic finish to an epic game of football.

U11D Boys League: Ferrybank 2 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Very unlucky today for the lads against a well organised ferrybank side. Shay Moore was unfortunate not to get 2 goals but the ferrybank keeper made great saves.

Pete Dunphy also got a shot from a cross cleared off of the line. Unfortunately they ended up conceding 2 goals off of corner kicks with ferrybank getting a 2-0 win. Lots of positives to take from this group as they are constantly improving individually and as a team.

Motm today goes to Aaron Walsh as he was great defensively and going forward in the centre of midfield and showed no fear as 1 of the younger players in the squad.

U16 Girls League: Piltown 0 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

A fierce contest today in sunny Piltown with little between the teams .
Our u16s took to the pitch against Piltown for an afternoon kick off .

Both teams were very disciplined at the back and for us today Sophie Scahill commanded the back four , she took control from the first kick and was consistent throughout , along with Eimear Quinn , Molly Murphy and Saoirse Corcoran .

On the 34th minute , a well taken corner from Eimear was met by Niamh Reddy who made sure the ball finished in the net , scoring her first Mooncoin Goal.

Emily Blackmore , Molly Long and Ella Brennan played some lovely through balls to Eimhin O Donohue, whose work rate today was phenomenal. And Kate McGrath worked tirelessly in the middle to keep the ball on the move .

But hats off today to keeper Sadhbh Kirwan , who in the last ten mins , when Piltown were pressing hard to find the equaliser, kept her cool and pulled off some great saves ,

Mooncoin came away with the three points in a very evenly matched and enjoyable game.

U14D Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 4 Ballinroad

We welcomed Ballinroad to suir crescent this afternoon and both teams paid their respects before the game observing a minute’s silence for the late Kate Quinn who was laid to rest this morning.

Both teams were evenly matched and ballinroad were first to score. We had a few missed chances and ballinroad got a 2nd just before half time. Jay dunphy got one back for us minutes into the 2nd half with cathal morahan scoring another belter to make it 2-2. Conor phelan was unlucky not to score near the end.

The back line were superb again today. Final score was 2-4 to Ballinroad.
