U12b Boys League: Ballinroad 2 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

This will definitely be remembered as the one that got away this season.

Mooncoin dominated the majority of the game with most of the action coming down the left side. Sean and Aaron both had good chances early on. Cian quickly squared the ball to Aaron on the edge of the box following a fast throw in from Billy.

Aaron shifted the ball from left to right foot on the run and powered a shot into the top corner for 1-0. The boys continued to dominate and were unlucky not to get a penalty when a Ballinroad defender momentarily caught the ball with both hands in their penalty area.

Fortunately for the home team the referee was the only person on the pitch not to see this.

The lads continued to perform admirably in the second half with Cian and Jason attacking well on the flanks but the finish was lacking on the day.

Ballinroad pounced on a short pass back to make it all square and with Mooncoin pushing for a second goal they again punished us for a loose break of the ball in the dying seconds.

It was the best performance of the season from our lads and if they keep this up the results will certainly follow.

U12C Boyd Result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 6 Tramore

It was a day to forget for the u12B lads as a free-scoring albeit fortunate Tramore came to town and scored with a follow up from a good save, a rebound off the crossbar from a penalty and a deflected effort being some of the highlights from their four first half goals.

Mooncoin fought hard in the second half and created a number of chances, one of which was saved on the line with Tramore scoring from the resultant breakaway.

The last goal was probably fortunate also. 6-0 to the visitors.

Waterford U16 Girls seal a Munster title

Waterford U16 Girls sealed the Munster title in style today in Cahir and we had three young ladies involved with the squad, Emily Blackmore, Aoibhe Rees and Ella Brennan.

As usual, Emily was a dangerous threat throughout and nicked the first goal to set Waterford on their way. All three girls should be proud of their achievements and savour it.

It is brilliant for our schoolgirls section that is still very much in its infancy since late 2018, with Covid putting a stop for more or less two seasons with no games at all.

Plenty of involvement at development squad level in those years and these girls today will inspire all the young girls in our club to aim high and achieve great things in the future.

U14D Boys League:
Piltown 2 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Today the lads travelled to piltown in what was sure to be a tough game.

There was nothing between the sides until piltown scored on the 20 minute mark. The lads didn’t let their heads drop as they kept going and had a few chances at the end of the first half but it wasn’t to be.

Piltown scored early in the second half and tired legs were starting to show in the last 10 minutes but Finn Foskin was unlucky not to find the net with piltown’s keeper making a great save.

Bradley Nolan was calm throughout the game between the sticks and made plenty saves. MOTM goes to Ryan Byrne who had a great performance in centre midfield.

U14B Girls League: Bohemians 2 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Our younger U14 girls travelled to Poleberry for this league tie against a strong Bohs team.

Superb efforts by all our girls on the night frustrated the home side for the majority of the game with a long range effort resulting in the first goal midway through the second half and VAR or goal line technology would have been helpful for deciding the second goal with our own goalkeeper in prime position to stop it from crossing the line but the goal was given much to the surprise of the majority in the ground. Let’s hope Furious Photography captured the moment!

U11a Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 3 – 3 Southend

A rip roaring contest in Suir Crescent this morning saw our boys entertain league leaders Southend and we took the game to them from the off with Will Doherty notching after 10 minutes and Cian O’Donoghue buried an effort just before half time to put us two up.

The expected reaction from Southend was quick with a sloppy goal conceded early and the equaliser followed soon after after poor defending under pressure from Southend players. We bounced right back with Billy O’Keeffe putting us back in front but again Southend came back to equalise with time ticking down.

A disappointed group afterwards after being ahead in the game but Southend showed why they are top of this league. Great advert for local schoolboys soccer.

Ladies Munster Junior Cup: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 2 Castleview AFC

A disappointing result for our young ladies side who should be very proud of their efforts against a decent Cork outfit. We flew out of the traps and took the lead on 10 minutes through Emily Blackmore’s tidy finish under the keeper.

Castleview came more in to the game and equalised midway through the half after a lapse in concentration. Just before half time we conceded a penalty which castleview tucked away to lead at half time.

The second half saw us dominating but try as we might we could not get that equaliser with Sarah Corcoran going closest in the last few minutes. A disappointing dressing room afterwards but all involved should be very proud of their performance. Best of luck to Castleview in the competition and a massive thank you to all who helped and supplied refreshments after the game.

Youths League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 5 Bohemians

On Sunday morning we welcomed Bohs to a sunny Suir Crescent with the hope of getting a point or three on the board. It was our first game in four weeks and in fairness we did well in the plan of containing and frustrating Bohs to a limited amount of chances.

At half time we were happy but worried about the amount of easy corners we were giving away and felt if we keep giving them away cheaply Bohs would capitalize eventually, which they did at the start of the 2nd half.

We were a little unlucky we lost our sweeper Lee Freyne who was having a very good game through injury. The most disappointing part of this 5-0 defeat is that we dropped our head too easy after the first goal, yes Bohs deserved to win but not in such an easy manner.

We have a lot of soul searching to do as a group this week as we had been making so good progress and we have to bounce back in positive fashion in next weekend’s game.
