U13 Boys B League Result

Mooncoin Celtic 2 Villa 1

A great start was made to the U13B league today in Grannagh, as we came out on top by the odd goal in 3 against a well organized Villa team, when our boys stepped out onto the full size pitch for the first time as a team together.

There was no signs in the early stages of the very short preseason we’ve had together and we were unfortunate to find ourselves a goal behind halfway through the 1st half through a well struck free kick.
We rolled up the sleeves and drew ourselves level minutes later when Edmond Murphy was up ended inside the villa penalty area, our no.9 dusted himself off to convert from 12 yards and get himself off the mark for the  season.
So level at halftime, an evenly fought contest was decided by another set piece when we were awarded a free kick 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Up stepped Oisin O’Hanlon, our tenacious left back, to crash a strike off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
The boys can be very proud of the performance throughout but in particular the final 20 minutes after going ahead, when they showed great resilience to keep out everything the villa could throw at them lead by captain TJ Curran.

Dungarvan 3 Mooncoin 5

Our u11s got off to a flyer in their opening game of the season with a well deserved win in Dungarvan. Kieran Quinn opened the scoring combining well with Michael Foran up front. Michael soon put in Huey O Hanlon Blanc for his first of 2 great goals. Leading 3-0 at the break 6 changes were made and we started to struggle with Dungarvan pulling it back to 3-2 before Ciro Kibinski got his first of the season with a great finish. Dungarvan scored soon after making for a tense finish at 4-3 before Ciro bagged his second in the last few minutes to seal the win for the boys. Epic scenes ! Congratulations to the boys on their first competitive win at the first attempt

Tomorrow one of Mooncoin Celtic’s underage coaches Patrick Dobbyn is part of a twelve person group taking part in a 500km cycle
(8 cyclists ,4 support drivers )
to raise funds for “The Haven Hub Waterford” .
This is a charity based in Waterford and the Mid West that helps with mental health awareness and suicide prevention supports.

One of our U12 players Shay Moore, who only recently picked up a gold medal in an international Muay Thai competition in Estonia, has been picked to represent Ireland in the IFMA Youth World Championships in Dubai later this year. As part of getting selected for the trip, funding is required from all participants to subsidise the costs towards it.

Best of luck to all the boys and girls on their Confirmation Day tomorrow, fingers crossed for fine weather and enjoy the day.

Today marks 7 years since this colourful character left us. Coach Rocky who played a big role in the development of so many kids playing soccer in Mooncoin over the years. Still missed around the club, the village and especially walking up and down that hill to the Heights with shades on and a smile and a wave and the odd funny comment for those he came across.

A year ago today, we lost Kate Corcoran at the tender age of 21. Kate was and always will be one of our own, as she was one of the original girls that took to the pitch with our Ladies team in their first season three years ago. We will keep the Corcoran and Grant families in our thoughts and prayers as always, especially today. That smile along with her colourful language is missed at every training session and match by Kate’s teammates and coaches.
During the summer we held a tournament in Kate’s memory and raised funds for Epilepsy Ireland and this gave great comfort and solace to Kate’s family and as a club we plan on making the tournament annual event where fun and the colour blue is to the forefront in memory of our dear Kate. 💙
