With work almost complete on the latest phase at our new development in Suir Crescent, the club will be moving into a top class facility after 52 years of moving from ground to ground. Just over €300,000 has been spent to date and our 300 Club Syndicate has been responsible for the majority of this with the funds generated leveraging grants and finance to complete different phases. To those that are already in the 300 club syndicate, a massive thank you for your continued support.
We are moving into the third year of the syndicate and a number of shares are available to purchase. If you are interested in joining the 300 club syndicate for €5 per week, please contact the Facebook page or contact Michelle 0863723163 or Brendan 0879828150 and a member of our Finance Committee will be in touch with further details.
As can be seen in the photos, we have come a long way in 2 years and fingers crossed we will be moving in shortly, we want as many local families as possible in the 300 club so get behind this fantastic project and help start developing the next phase of the development.
U14 Result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 Dungarvan United 3
Dungarvan were Saturdays visitors to Ashgrove. A strong wind made conditions difficult but both teams tried to play football and we were edging the contest until we conceded against the run of play just before ht. 1.0 down at the break. We bossed the second half and equalised when Finbarr Purcell assisted Jamie Croke . 1.1 with 15 minutes to go and we pressed and were the better team. It was a sucker punch when a dubious goal 3 mins from time had us 2.1 down totally against the run of play. We threw caution to the wind an conceded on stroke of full time. A defeat but a fantastic performance from everyone. MoM: Sean Kearns & Billy Delahunty, with special mention for Jack Walsh who was immense in the middle of the park.
TD visit
John Paul Phelan TD paid a visit to Suir Crescent last week to view the progress to date and was taken aback with how much has been done to date and the high standard of workmanship.
A lot of this work would not have happened without the help of local councillors Pat Dunphy and Thomas Breathnach at local level and John Paul Phelan at national level, making representations on our behalf when it came to grant applications.
U12 Girls Result : Mooncoin Purples 0 Tramore 6
First league game of the season for our older Purple girls team against an in-form and very good Tramore side in stormy, wet & chilly conditions which kicked off right after our Pinks game. Tramore got on the score board early in the game and kept much of the play in the Mooncoin end of the field. There were a few chances for the purples to register scores but they didn’t have the finishing touch. Overall, a score line that doesn’t really reflect the tenacity and effort of the Purple girls but plenty to work on for the next game and again a lot of positives going forward.
U12 Pink Girls Result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 Dungarvan 2
There is a saying that in certain weather that you wouldn’t put a dog out in it, but this morning our u12 pink girls squad of 14 girls kicked off their league campaign in horrendous conditions against a very organised Dungarvan outfit. Playing against the breeze Dungarvan quickly showed their class and pinned the girls back and led 2-0 at half time but our bundle of girls who are all u11 dig deep and showed tremendous resilience in tough conditions and saw the game out at 2-0. A lot to take from this one with a team that are all underage again next year.
U16 Girls Result: Cappoquin 3 Mooncoin Celtic 1
Today saw our u16 Girls make their debut in Cappoquinn.
The bad weather made for difficult playing conditions but both teams made the best they could of the situation.
We started the game very well and took the lead when Ellie Corcoran opened her scoring account for the season . We seen chances come and go but not managing to convert any on to the score board . 0-1 Half Time.
Cappoquin came out in the second half rejuvenated and took the game by the horns , quickly equalising and adding two more to it before the full whistle. Not the start we had been hoping for but what’s done is done. For now, the girls will regroup and learn from today.
3rd Division Result: Rathgormack 1 Mooncoin Celtic 1
An solid first half performance from the lads yielded no goals with the majority of chances falling our way. The second half was dominated by ourselves from start to finish and we got our noses in front through an excellent finish by Jp Purcell on the hour mark. Several more chances went a begging and our worst fears were confirmed when Rathgormack nicked a late equaliser on the break to leave us with a point for our efforts.
U12B Result: Piltown 4 Mooncoin 3
A local derby, and a mighty tussle as Piltown came out the right side of a 7 goal thriller.
It was perfect conditions for a match in Kildalton Park and Piltown got off to a flyer with an early goal via a penalty.
Mooncoin got a foothold in midfield and with a through ball Shane Purcell was on hand to slot in from a tight angle.
From a Mooncoin corner, Conor Walsh slotted home from close range and not 2 minutes later Conor Walsh was on hand again to grab a second and the teams third.
Piltown now piled on the pressure, there were some fine saves from Eoin Tobin in goal. Then just before half time Piltown made it 3-2.
The 2nd half was much tighter with some fine passing from both sides. Then close to the end from a corner Piltown scored and a few minutes later they scored from an unstoppable long range shot.
There was a final chance for Mooncoin in the last minute but there was a fine save and the match finished 4-3 to Piltown.
The lads have improved mightly from the first match and it can only be upwards from here.
U12D Result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 vs Waterford Crystal 3
A disappointing result but much improved performance from this squad this morning in breezy ashgrove. The u11 lads on show put in excellent shifts and it was young Sam Ponce De Leon who slotted home like an old pro before Crystal nicked a 3rd goal.
