A big physical Bohs team were entertained by our young 1b side with a few new faces making their first start. An early tidy finish from Jamie Grace saw us grab the lead and from there on it was a tight physical game with the referee having his hands full but was well on top of things throughout. We limited Bohs to scraps and saw out the 7 minutes of injury time to get the three points.

Newcomers Ballyduff came to Suir Crescent hoping to put it up to our girls but met an inform group with goals from Emily Blackmore, Becky Connaughton, Beth Kelly and Sarah Walsh sealed an emphatic win.

A perfect weekend was rounded off by our u12 girls who made it 6 home wins out of 6 for the club across the two days. Goals from Maria, Gwen and Sarah saw three points secured.

Best of Luck

Ahead of the new season, all in Mooncoin Celtic wish the very best of luck to our two former players Daniel Ponce de Leon and Ethan Owens and all Waterford FC Academy teams. Two talented boys with super attitudes, who both started off in our academy in 2015 & 2016 respectively and worked their socks off every week over the years to elevate themselves to League of Ireland Academy level.

Well done all

Well done to all four Waterford Schoolgirls Development Squads who were in action over the weekend with our own Molly Walsh involved in the Munster Trophy win with u13s in Limerick, Hannah Dobbyn was part of the victorious u14s at home to Louth in the All Ireland Shield semi final while Sophie Phelan was part of the U16 squad who unfortunately were beaten 2-1. Coaches JP Byrne and Ritchie Lynch are also part of the u13 coaching team.

New Academy Sponsor

Mooncoin Celtic AFC are delighted to announce an exclusive partnership with the award winning Eastgate Engineering who are privately owned by Mooncoin man David Brennan. Eastgate Engineering will be the main academy sponsor for the next three years and the Eastgate Engineering name and logo will be very prominent on signage in Suir Crescent and on the academy kid’s jerseys for all their games in the coming years while also sponsoring our weekly Player of the Week awards.
Eastgate Engineering are to the forefront in the renewable energy industry and are always looking to shape a greener future for generations to come and as a club, we are delighted to be supported by Eastgate Engineering. A massive thank you to all involved in Eastgate Engineering and to David Brennan for coming down to our academy session for the sponsorship launch with the kids. We were very lucky to have one of our founding members Matty Kelly present with one of the original jerseys from 1968 to show the original colours and Matty was delighted to see the original style of black and green stripes returning as our home club strip. A number of the photos shown are of David and others sitting in one of the dugouts which were also kindly sponsored by Eastgate Engineering a couple of years ago.
Finally, a massive well done to our Academy player of the week winners: Oisin, Daniel, Fia and Mikey 🏆⚽️🏆⚽️

OG’S

We posted a photo of our young ladies team in their new playing strip during the week, this photo from many years ago was circulated in the last few days showing the green and black striped jerseys. Can you name all these ladies who donned the club colours in the late 1970s?

New Club Strip

Pictured before a recent league match are our Ladies team who are sporting a new strip which is a throwback to the original club colours . The purchase of this strip was covered by the Local Enhancement Grant 2024 under Kilkenny County Council. In the coming months, it is planned for all our teams to revert back to the original colours of 1968.

PRESEASON TRAINING

Our adult teams return to training this week for the upcoming season which will kick off in early March. If you are 17 years of age or more and interested in playing, please get in touch through our page.
