WSFL Under 16 C League
Mooncoin Celtic 1 Tramore C 4

Exciting game in Suir Crescent and we did well against a strong attacking team. The effort and performances
are not deserving of recent results but we kept going until the very end and we are improving every week. Firstly lets
say a huge congratulations to Bradley who has made the Waterford Development Squad and he showed on Saturday exactly why he
deserves it with another cracking display in goal saving many effots and a penalty also. We are finding our feet and some people are fitting in well into new positions and with some hard work on the training ground we
can turn this around once we can acquire a full squad for the games.Liam Mackey scored our goal from a free kick 30 yards out.
Some stand out performances on the day were from Cormac Fenton, Lucas Delahunty and Gavin Coady. Squad as follows
Bradley Nolan, Micheal Murphy, Cormac Fenton, Gavin Coady, Liam Mackey, Jake Clarke, Ben Buckley, Lucas Delahunty, Cillian Walshe,
Emmett Cusack, Marcos Cambra, Ben Dawson, Eoghan Drennan, Ross Cronin, Cian O’Leary.

End of an Era

All in Mooncoin Celtic would like to wish the very best for the future to Michael and Alice Blanchfield who finished in their roles as not just owners of Centra Mooncoin but also as the custodians of the main hub in our village. Covid 19 was to prove challenging for so many in our country, but Blanchfields were to the forefront in helping people locally and really excelled in how they helped the community during a very trying period. Any shop that can sell one winning Lotto ticket is special but to sell two in the space of a few years was something else and will forever be in the history books (We still can’t believe it wasn’t the 300 club syndicate) . As a club, we are extremely grateful for the support Michael and Alice showed us over the years in whatever way they could. Best of luck and good health going forward.

Girls u18s league Mooncoin Celtic 4 Cappoquin Railway FC 3

After not having a game for the last Month the Mooncoin u18s team were eager to take to the pitch today . Today was a debut game for Keeper Abbie Hassett , who did very well for us.
On a day where we never seemed to settle , we dug deep and managed to grind out a result . Sarah Walsh once again getting herself on the scoresheet today in the 22nd Minute . But a resilient Cappoquin Outfit grabbed the equaliser on the 38 minute mark . Mooncoin moved a lot better in the second half and created a few changes . Emily Blackmore grabbed a superbly taken goal ten minutes into the second half and doubled that in the 61st minute . Cappoquin were constantly on our tails . Hannah Carroll scored her first goal of the season from a perfectly struck free kick that sailed to the top right corner . The last ten minutes was a very lively affair with the opposition pulling back 2 goals in a 5 minute period . However to our girls credit , they dug deep and hung in there. Grabbing the all important three points from todays game .
Good performances today from Sarah Walsh, Grace O’Toole, Molly Long and in only her second game Niamh Enright

U12D LEAGUE
MOONCOIN 1
ST SAVIOURS 1

An evenly contested game was played with plenty chances for both teams throughout. We conceded half way through the first half from a corner that took a massive deflection to see the ball in the back of the net. We equalised before half time through great team play by Teddy D, Oisin O H, Pete D and Billy F with Billy hammering it home to make it 1-1. The 2nd half saw more chances created but it wasn’t to be. Shay M was introduced in the 2nd half getting very unlucky with a free kick being saved on to the crossbar and later on giving a great long ball to put Oisin through where he was very unlucky not to score with the keeper making a great save. The goalkeeper Oscar O K and the back 3 of Luke H, Tom D, Dylan O H were very solid throughout. Plenty positives to take with this young group and another point on the board.

Waterford Interleague

Big well done to all involved on Interleague duty this weekend. Ella Brennan was involved with the U16s, Sophie Phelan and Ciara Lynch with the U14 squad and we have two coaches involved with the u12 squad, JP Byrne and Ritchie Lynch.

U14b League Mooncoin Celtic 1 Villa Fc 4

Our first home league match against Villa saw a flat performance from the lads in the first half with 3 goals from the visitors. A good save from their keeper denied Tommy what looked like a certain goal. A much better second half performance from the lads with more grit and possession saw Robbie get a goal back. The second goal didn’t come and a 4th breakaway goal for Villa resulted in a final 4-1 scoreline that flattered them.

Congratulations

Well done to the Waterford u16s Interleague team that continued there unbeaten start in the group with a fantastic 3-2 away win against Kilkenny earlier today. Well done to our own Ella Brennan flying the flag for Mooncoin. Well done girls

U12 SFAI Cup 3rd Round Result Southend United 1
Mooncoin Celtic 1 Southend win 3-2 on penalties after extra time.

After 80 minutes of football, it took a penalty shoot out to seperate these two fine sides in sticky conditions. Our boys set out to take the game to Southend but couldn’t break them down in the first half while Southend found chances scarce to come by too. They did take the lead just on half time with a brilliant free kick to go in 1 up. Second half saw a determined push by our boys and they created plenty chances while Tyler K was in top form keeping Southend out. Conall D grabbed the equaliser after a Ryan S free kick was parried. We continued to push for the winner but no joy. Extra time saw us create lots of chances with Richard H rattling the Southend crossbar, Ryan S and Will D also went very close to grabbing the winner. The dreaded penalty shoot out was always going to be tough and unfortunately our boys came out the wrong end of it. A brilliant , disciplined performance by all on duty for the 80 minutes. Fair play to the referee, Southend players and officials for their kind words to our lads after the game.

Girls u16 SFAI Cup

Our u16 girls had to hit the road again in the Cup after the game was called off last week due to the weather. And an absolute Thriller of a game was played today it would’ve been fitting for Halloween last week.
We travelled up to Kilkenny to play Stoneyford fc at the watershed.
The opening few minutes both teams were checking out the opposition but it was Mooncoin that had the ball in the Stoneyford net with a super goal by Aoibhe Rees on 18 minutes. And as quick as a flash Áine Connery had doubled the score. As the first half continued the girls pushed on and about five minutes before the break Áine bagged her second of the day. Stoneyford pulled one back just before halftime. Second half Stoneyford pushed on and pulled a second one back. Our girls were after squandering a couple of great chances and with 15 minutes left Stoneyford grabbed an equaliser. Both teams were giving it everything at this stage. Luckily for Mooncoin we had the great Áine on hand to grab her hatrick and a fourth for the visitors. We had to endure a hectic few minutes at the end. I think Stoneyford had about 8 corners in the second half. But the character of the Mooncoin girls came through and they got over the line. Final score Stoneyford 3 Mooncoin 4. Our next round is away to Clonmel in 3 weeks time.
