A confident display from Jake Moore’s charges who head in to a semi final at home to Carrick United next Tuesday evening aiming for a final slot. Goalscorers on the night were Seanie with 2, Luke, Dylan, Shay and Kai.
Tuesday evening we welcomed Waterford Crystal to Suir Cresent for our last scheduled league match.
This was a game that we controlled from the kick off. On 7 minutes we were awarded a penalty which was clinically dispatched by Ella Brennan. On 20 minutes Áine Connery doubled the score slotting home from a smart free kick from Ella. On 29 Ella got her second of the game. On the stroke of halftime Mollie Murphy added to the scoreline poking the ball into the net from a corner. On 62 minutes Stephanie Phelan scored the fifth for Mooncoin with a super free kick.
We had a squad of 17 for the game and everyone got at least 30 minutes. It was a great team performance where all girls played their part. A massive thank you to Hannah Dobbyn for stepping in between the posts for us tonight as Sadhbh wasn’t available. Hannah had a very good game. To our young opposition it wasn’t their night but in time their day will come.
Our girls have a quick turn around as they’re playing Park Rangers on Thursday evening in Suir Cresent at 7.30 in the Cup. All support is welcome.
League wise we are now in a 3 way play off with Dungarvan, Park Rangers and ourselves for the B league.
On a day where anything was possible . These two teams took to the pitch in a 5 goal thriller , where each possible ending meant a different outcome to what has been an exciting 18s league .
A Win for the home side meant the league would be won in Ben wadding park for Bohemians , a draw would mean that Carrick United would top the poll and a win for Mooncoin would mean that we live to fight another day , and force a play off with Carrick for the top prize .
A nervy start saw Bohs dictate the play . But we soon settled in and started to get ourselves involved . On the 14 minute mark Emily Blackmore made her presence known when she took possession of the ball by the corner flag and headed towards goal , taking a look towards the goal , she took aim from a tight angle and got her shot away, the ball sailed to the top comer of the net . We settled a little at this point and imposed ourselves on the home side . Molly Long played a pivotal role today and her work rate on the wing was superb . On the other wing Ella Brennan played her part , breaking down play and forcing the ball forward . Hannah Carol and Sommer Grant worked tirelessly in Midfield to get the ball forward.
In defence , Kate McGrath and Eimear Quinn, along with Niamh Reddy and Gracie O Toole, did what was necessary to keep the opposition at bay .
Ten mins from Half time we struck again after winning a ball in the centre of the park through a Hannah Carroll tackle , she passed to Molly Long who got a pass to the feet of Emily , who took a touch , and with only her left foot as an option hit a shot that rattled the net . Sarah Walsh put in another mammoth shift for us today and was unlucky not to score before the halftime break .
The second half was a completely different affair, and bohemians managed to get themselves right back into the game . It was all square heading into the last 20 mins of the game .
Full credit to our girls , who dug deep ….. and kept the pressure on . In the 68th minute, a throw ball collected by Molly Long was cleverly sent it over the heads of both sets of players outside the box for Emily volley the ball and it flew to the back of the net , to the delight of the travelling support . We closed the game out with our defence and Keeper Abbie Hassett on full alert, knowing what was at stake . Subs Ciara Ross , Sophie Scahill, Mollie Murphy, and Keelin all
played their part today in a fantastic team effort .
Todays result means the league will be decided in a play off between ourselves and Carrick United .
Massive thanks to the supporters today and all season .
Our U9 boys today and despite the weather the boys really enjoyed themselves with three wins from three in the group against Southend, Ballinroad and Bohs before a quarter final battle against Tramore proved to be a right battle with the lads on top in the first half but Tramore got the crucial goals to progress. Tough one to take but some fabulous football played by all involved throughout the day. Thanks as always to Mick Mullowney and his team for running a great tournament.
Our U14 girls played their cup final in the fantastic Tom Drohan Park, home of Carrick United, in front of a packed crowd. From the off it was clear this was going to be a great final against Dungarvan United. The first half was a very equal affair with both sides giving it everything but nerves were very obvious in both sides with very little between the teams. The only thing separating the sides at half time was a header by Lexi from an excellent Briona corner. The second half continued the same with chances at both ends. Lexi got the all important second goal from the penalty spot after a handball. In the closing stages of the game Anna R sealed the victory calmly slotting home at the back post. Special mention goes to Ciara who picked up the player of the match award for covering every inch of the pitch, this was chosen by the officials on the day. A great victory with all eighteen girls on duty playing their part. Thanks to Dungarvan United for a very sporting game. Thanks also to the match officials, WDWSL and the large supporting contingent on the day in Carrick.
Lastly a huge congratulations to our u14 girls and coaches who have worked tirelessly throughout the year, twice a week in all weathers resulting in an historic double for Mooncoin Celtic schoolgirls. 🏆🏆
As the long u14b season is nearing conclusion Mooncoin hosted Tramore in Suir Crescent. Mooncoin dominated possession in the first half but despite lots of shots did not create too many big chances. In the second half we continued in the same vein and Tommy curled a shot from outside the box to score his first goal of the season in to the top corner, reward for his non-stop effort. Mooncoin relaxed and despite a fab save from Bradley, Tramore were quicker to the parry to slot home an equaliser. This spurred the lads on and Cathal floated a dangerous ball in to the box that James pounced on to score clinically when the chance looked to have gone. The lads thought they’d done enough to get the 3 points but Tramore won a late corner and the corner-taker got to the second ball to hit an unstoppable shot in to the far corner of the net and the match finished shortly after with points shared with final score of 2-2.
Tomorrow our U14 girls play Dungarvan United in the Cup Final and hopefully clinch a fantastic league and cup double. Support for this talented group is crucial as was shown when they won their league in front of a big crowd recently. If at all possible, get yourselves up to Carrick for 2pm and cheer on this team to cup glory.
It really was a Super Sunday in sunny Suir Cresent as our girls gave what was probably the best performance of the season to date.
From the kick off our girls pressed. But it wasn’t until the 20th minute for the deadlock to be broken when Keelin Byrne headed home a perfectly delivered free kick from Ella. On the 40th minute Áine Connery doubled our lead with a tap in after some great work by Aoibhe. After 55 minutes, Dungarvan pulled a goal back, but in a super response, Mooncoin went down the other end and restored our 2 goal lead through Áine on 56 minutes, getting her second of the day. 7 minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Keelin got her second of the day. Mooncoin were dominant in all areas at this stage. On 70 Aoibhe Rees got her deserved goal to make it 5 1 to the hosts.
The 16 girls in todays squad all got game time, and every single one played their part in this performance. We controlled the game in its entirety from start to finish.
A big thank you to Danielle for the ice pops after the game. Much appreciated
