u12 league winners from 1990-91

The u12 league winners from 1990-91. Another group of lads the club would love to see at the dinner dance on Friday 31st of August.

Most of this squad will be hitting the 40 mark in the next year, a brilliant night and opportunity to catch up with old school pals nearly 30 years later.

50th anniversary dinner dance

On friday 31st of august, the club are celebrating their 50th anniversary dinner dance in the tower hotel. Probably the best schoolboys team the club ever had was the u16 cup winning team from 1994. We would love to have as many of the lads from that squad there on the night to reminisce and celebrate that famous cup win. Contact the page privately or get in touch with Michelle O’Hanlon 086 372 3163 for tickets.

Rocky’s award

Rocky’s award being presented to Emily Blackmore for her outstanding year with both club and u12 Waterford Development squad. An email landed this morning informing the club that Emily is picked for trials for Waterford/Cork U12 FAI Centre of Excellence next Thursday in Youghal. A special talent at 10 years of age and a very bright future ahead. The very best of luck next week Emily from all in Mooncoin Celtic.

Mooncoin Pubs League Final Result

Maisie’s 1 The Auld Rogue 1
Maisie’s win 4-2 on penalties

This game started at a frantic pace with a youthful Auld Rogue side going at the more experienced Maisie’s. Just as the game settled down, Maisie’s were awarded a dubious penalty which Paul Phelan slotted home. The second half saw Maisie’s keep The Rogue at bay but with Kyle Doherty pulling the strings, there was always a chance of an equalizer. With two minutes left on the clock, a deflected effort from Doherty crept past Dean Purcell to send the game into extra time but not before a pure piece of brilliance from Paul Phelan for Maisie’s when he hit a 50 yard shot that rattled the post in the last minute. Extra time produced little as both teams sat back with David Sheridan missing a sitter to win it for Maisie’s. The shoot out was always going to be a lottery with Dean Purcell being the hero saving two spot kicks and scoring 1 to win it for Maisie’s.

This brings the curtain down on this years pubs league with Mick Cummins leading his team to the trophy once again. Stephen Bible for Maisie’s won the man of the match award for his towering display at centre back.

Two Pubs League semi finals

The two semi finals were played in excruciating heat this evening in Ashgrove with The Rose of Mooncoin and The Auld Rogue from Carrick playing out the first one. Little between them in the first half and it always looked like the first goal would be crucial. The Auld Rogue were the team to break the deadlock and tagged on their second with time just up.
The second game was a repeat of last years final with Doyle’s and Maisie’s going at it. Again little between the two in the first half but the second half showed why Maisie’s are favourites for the competition as Mick Cummins team notched two goals in the last 10 minutes to secure their place in the final.
Disappointment for both local teams but the better teams won out on the night.
The final Saturday evening should be a cracker as The Auld Rogue from Carrick will be looking to clinch their first Pubs league title while Mick Cummins has Maisie’s back in the final hoping to go one better this year. Kick off is 7.15 and we can more or less guarantee good weather for it. See ye all Saturday evening.
