U18 Girls League Villa FC 1 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Our 18s girls team travelled to Connors Park yesterday evening to take on The Villa .
After what has been a very difficult time for Our Club and the girls involved in this team , we took to the pitch with 4KC on our minds and close to our hearts

What ensued was an epic battle between the two sides , with The Mooncoin Side leaving with all three points .

There was very little to separate the two teams, and after a slow start, we grew into the game. We opened the scoring on 39 minutes when Grace O Toole sent a free kick to the right corner of the pitch where Sommer Grant sent the ball in towards the penalty area , where a patient Sarah Walsh took a touch before putting the ball in the back of the net with a superb finish. Villa pulled back the goal on the stroke of half-time when we fell asleep from a corner

The second half was a lively affair , and we took the lead after 5 mins with another well placed pass from Sommer , with Emily Blackmore on the receiving end of the Pass , and didn’t hesitate sending the ball in to the net . Play was stopped temporarily when two players had a clash of heads. With Grace and the Villa player having to leave the field. Speedy recovery to Grace , who put in an epic shift in the Mooncoin shirt tonight . Young Molly Murphy stepped in to fray and gave fine performance.
Villa had a few chances , but Abbie Hassett was on hand and pulled off some great saves tonight when it counted the most . Our third goal came from Molly Long who was on hand when Ella Brennan sent a superb corner kick towards the back post . Molly took the ball down and slotted home . Great 3 points away from home in a hard fought game.

1B Result Mooncoin Celtic 0 St Paul’s 3

A cold frosty morning in Suir Crescent saw St Paul’s secure the three points on offer with the 10 week break since our last run out very evident for young group. Three first half goals were enough on the day, we did rattle the Paul’s bar in each half but rarely threatened other than that. We’d like to thank St Paul’s physio Danny O’Neill for his care and attention looking after a nasty injury to Kevin Law mid way through the second half. Speedy recovery to Kevin in what his first game back. Seaview away next Sunday to give the boys the opportunity to put today behind them.

U14B League Carrick untied 6 Mooncoin Celtic 1

A beautiful sunny winters day for our first u14 league match in 2024. Mooncoin started brightly and some good work between Cathal and Shane resulted in a shot hitting the cross bar and another sneaking past the far post. Carrick took the lead on 5 minutes from a Mooncoin mistake which was the theme of the day. Carrick led at half time 3 nil. Better possession in the second half for Mooncoin but no luck today in front of goal. Some good saves by Bradley kept the score the same. 3 late goals by Carrick gave them the deserved win, but the scoreline flattered them. Plenty of effort by all the lads today who will need to pick themselves up for the next game.

U12 Girls Result Southend 6 Mooncoin Celtic 4

No fewer than ten goals scored in this one. Southend started the strongest and notched an early goal. Our girls got themselves the equaliser soon after though.
Some good attacking play from Southend brought it to 3-1 at half time.
The girls gathered themselves at half time and scored three goals without reply to bring it to 3-4 in the second half. A late surge from our opposition finished the game at 6-4. A hat trick from Aoibhe V and one from Molly in this thoroughly entertaining and end to end game.

U11 B League De La Salle 4 Mooncoin Celtic 1

u11B team were away to De la Salle Saturday morning and started off great, we were on the front foot for the first 15 minutes against a well organised side. We didn’t take our chances and went one goal down, we equalised but was ruled offside was a tight call, 3-0 at halftime. The lads started off great in the second half. Scored 3 goals which were ruled offside. We did get 1 goal from a counter attack from a corner kick Dennis put the through ball into Kai and was side by side with a defender and turned him and lobs the goalkeeper. Great goal and great assist. the boys played great and were very unlucky now onto the next game ⚽️

Ladies League: Villa 2 Mooncoin Celtic 1

We started the game brightly and took the lead with a great cross from Bethany Carroll that found Emily Blackmore who turned and finished with a great left foot finish into the bottom corner. The rest of the first half was a fairly evenly matched contest. In the 2nd half Villa came out sharper and got their reward with a good strike from distance after we failed to close down after clearing a corner. Villa then took all 3 points with a poor goal for us to concede. Both teams got what they deserved in the end.

U16 Girls Waterford Crystal 0 Mooncoin Celtic 5

This morning we took our largest group to date into play Waterford Crystal, with all girls getting valuable game time and every girl putting in a great effort for the team and each other. From the kick off our girls were in control of the game but with our opposition playing very defensively it took us a while to get a shot on target. The breakthrough eventually came after 22 minutes when the inform Áine Connery got on the score sheet.
We made a number of substitutions at halftime and after 10 minutes in the second half Áine struck again for her second on the day and her 7th in her last 3 starts(an amazing record). The third wasn’t long in coming with Ella Brennan getting in on the act. Midway through the half we claimed a fourth goal from Aoibhe Rees. We continued to press for more and the girls persistence paid off when Caoimhe Fanning scored the fifth and final goal. Our goalie and defence smothered any potential treat that came their way from a young and determined Crystal team who if they keep at it their day will come.Good day at the office. Well done girls
