U11E League Result Carrick United 1 Mooncoin Celtic 1

The lads traveled to carrick today for a sticky first fixture in the blistering heat.
We started very brightly and put our stamp on the game from the off with Edmund M and Charlie O’K causing carrick all kinds of problems on the wings. The defence of Billy M, Corey T and Patrick P kept carrick very quiet and the opening goal came late in the first half when Ryan O’L and Charlie O’K done well to win the ball in our half. Ryan set Cormac M away and John Joe W came flying in brilliantly to tuck away Cormac’s cross. Jim C and Aideen O’K came in after the goal to get fresh legs and keep the lead. We played very well in the second half with some smart goalkeeping from Thomas M keeping us in front. Unfortunately he could do nothing to keep out the carrick equaliser which came from a dubious free kick which was very well converted. Chances came and went for both sides but we had to settle for a draw. The defence today was excellent and in particular todays man of the match Corey. The whole team put in an excellent effort today and have definitely all earned an ice cream after it.

U11D League Result Bohs 3 Mooncoin Celtic 1

This group can count themselves very unlucky to have not got a draw at the very least. A slow start saw them 2 down at the break bug they hit the post and also went close on a couple of occasions too. Second half saw them roar out and hit crossbar twice and post again before pulling a goal back through Liam McDonnell. Try as they might they couldn’t get an equaliser and Bohs got a deflected 3rd goal to sneak it. Disappointed group afterwards but lots learned by all on duty.

U11A League Result Ferrybank 5 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Scorching conditions in glorious Ferrybank for a 12.30 kick off. Ferrybank dominated the first half but the boys were well in the game with Ted McLoughlin finishing well to equalise in the first half. Second half saw a couple of sloppy goals given away but back roared the boys with Shane Mackey and Billy Fielding notching. Ferrybank knocked in their 5th to secure all three points. This young side will no doubt improve as the season will progress in the top division.

1B League Result Mooncoin Celtic 1 Villa 5

Very disappointing display from the lads this morning with Villa deservedly taking the three points. Some very poor mistakes were to prove costly with Villa 4 up at the break. They knocked in number 5 just after half time with another defensive error proving costly. We pulled a goal back through Kieran Fagan but a bad day all round.

The curtain came down on the season at the RSC back pitches this evening and Benfica showed why they are in contention for a possible double with a ruthless performance against our young side. The girls on duty this evening battled throughout the game. Tough season for our young squad against top opposition with plenty of positives to take for all players. Big thank you as always to supporters for cheering on the girls.

Ladies Cup Semi final Result : Mooncoin Celtic 0 Benfica 3

From the off our young ladies side set their stall out to frustrate Benfica for as long as possible and try catch them on the break. Our young back 4 were superb throughout the first half and really limited Benfica to long range shots. A lapse on 15 minutes was the only downside when a run from deep by the Benfica winger resulted in the opener. The whole midfield and Caoimhe Power up top done huge work throughout the first half and deserved more for their efforts. 1 nil at half time. A similar plan for the second half was set out but an early goal from a corner put a bit of daylight between the teams. A late third goal by Benfica saw them progress but a huge sense of pride in the disciplined performance by our young starting side with an average age of just 19. Best of luck to Benfica in the Cup final. Big thank you to all the supporters today throughout the game.
