Mooncoin and Benfica went head to head this evening in a delayed fixture in the Women’s Winter league
Our young squad and a couple of not so young squad members took to the pitch in Ozier. Benfica got off to a flyer when they scored on the 10 minute mark . But Mooncoin reacted well and a set piece taken by Shauna Mullowney was sent to the back of the net off the boot of Emily Blackmore, who timed her strike just right . Some sloppy defending from ourselves saw us concede three goals before the break to see us go in 4-1 down at half time.
The second half was a much better half from us and we played some very good football . Pressing more with our passing and communication much improved on the first half display. Benfica added a fifth to their tally 15 mins in . We introduced our subs into the game . Caoimhe Power and Ella Brennan making an immediate impact . We added a second goal to the scoresheet halfway through the half when Ella Brennan took possession of a ball on the halfway line ….. she took off down the wing , spotting Emily in an advantageous position she played the ball out in front of her . Emily was first to the ball and headed towards goal , and with the advancing benfica keeper , she made sure to take her shot at the right time and slotting to the bottom right corner with a lovely left foot finish . Stand out performances tonight from Sommer Grant , Kate Mcgrath, Shaunna Mullowney, and Emily Blackmore with every player putting in a massive effort.
Our U10 girls travelled to Ballinroad this morning and played out an exciting game in lovely spring conditions with lots of goals scored by both teams, Kate C getting a hat trick for our girls. Happy crew and coaches after this one.
12 young ladies had an early start on Saturday morning as they headed to Ballymackey in Tipperary for this u17 Munster Cup fixture.
We were lucky enough to be afforded the chance to travel by bus .
And the trip was Kindly sponsored by

It’s fantastic to see local Buisness supporting local clubs , and our girls were thrilled with the day Out .
The girls took to the pitch against a strong North Tipp outfit . And although going toe to toe with the opposition. Two quick goals in the first fifteen mins left us chasing the game . On the 38 minute mark BallyMackey added a third and two minutes later Emily Blackmore gave us some hope when she slotted to the Back of the net after a slick through ball from Molly Long .
We played much better in the second half in heavy conditions . With both teams adding a goal each to their tally . With Ella Brennan scoring for Mooncoin Celtic . The game ended 4-2 to Ballymackey .
A huge thanks to the young ladies that travelled today .
And to our hosts for the hot beverages and refreshments.
Saturdays game was refereed by a young man called Bobby O Connor . Who has been officiating games for almost 2 years . The performance from the man in the middle was suberb today . His handling of the game and both teams is to be admired and applauded. It’s very seldom that two teams leave the field with high praise for a referee.
Best of Luck to BallyMackey in the next round .
Also a massive thanks to Darren Lyons for his sponsorship of todays Match Ball .
A trip to high flying De La Salle on a miserable Saturday morning where the boys will feel unlucky not to come away with any points with a missed penalty from us and a soft goal given away for the De La Salle opener.
Credit most go to all players for playing in torrential conditions.
Our 18s outfit got off to a Rocky start on Sunday morning . Going a goal down within 10 minutes . However, the girls settled soon after and played some great football. We went in at half time 1-4 up after goals from Emily Blackmore x 2 Ella Brennan & Hannah Carroll. Ella added a second to her tally midway through the second half.
The introduction of fresh legs in the second half rejuvenated the team, and we finished out the game strongly .
A much improved performance by this group and it could have been a win but for a missed penalty but villa might have nicked it too but for a brilliant goal line clearance by Logan. Goals on the day from Cathal with a brace and one from Daniel secured a well deserved point.
A top performance by all on duty and the lads secured the three points through Aaron D with 2,Noel D and an Og.
An end to end game from start to finish with us going 2 nill up early with Cory finishing from an excellent corner from Cormac , Cormac would double our lead soon after with a bullet penalty. Bohs pegged us back to 2-1 before Edmond set up Cormac for his 2nd with a superb finish. A late Bohs goal made for a nervy finish, but we held on for our second win in row.
Man of the match Cormac M with two goals and assist.
A bigger Ballyduff side took the honours in this one where two teams went toe to toe for the 50 minutes. Goals in the second half by Reuben O and Odhráin D were not enough as Ballyduff rattled in three second half goals.
