The u17 Munster Cup took Mooncoin all the way to the Rebel county where we took on Wilton FC .
The weather was unpredictable today, but the same could not be said of the Mooncoin Outfit . We pressed from the very beginning and applied pressure all over the field .
On the 15 minute mark we had a stonewall penalty denied after Emily Blackmore was taken down inside the box .. we didn’t need to wait too long to rectify the situation as On the 18 minute mark Molly Long played a beautiful though ball to Emily who went one on one with the Wilton keeper before confidently slotting home ….. within 5 minutes we had hit the net again , when Sommer Grant played a pin point pass to Emily’s feet on the wing , who then passed the defence with some fancy footwork and squared the pass across to Ella Brennan who blasted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
Sophie Scahill Niamh Reddy Eimear Quinn and Luiseach O Donohue were rock solid in the defence with Alanah Tobin giving a fine display in goal quenching any hope of a Wilton Goal .
We added a third on the 33 minute mark when Sommer Grant crossed a corner kick that looked to cross the line , but just incase , Sarah Walsh made sure that the ball ended up in the net .
The second half was a livelier affair with both teams going toe to toe with nothing between them . The Game finished with the Visitors 3 goals to the Good and a progression to the next stage .
A special thanks to Rene and Seamus Comerford who subsidised the Bus fare for todays trip .
A wet and windy evening awaited us on our trip to Evergreens Fantastic Facilities in Kilkenny for an u16 SFAI girls game .
It was the girls first game on Astro under light .
We started the game with gusto and made our intentions known from the beginning . Making some very good attacks from the first kick .
Evergreen Were just as eager and made their presence known , with Goal keeper Emily Blackmore called into action on a number of occasions
We drew first blood on the 15 minute mark when Molly Murphy cleared a ball that Sophie Scahill connected with , sending it in over the top where Aoibhe Rees had a shot in goal that was saved and sent to the left wing where an eager Ella Brennan wasted no time in slotting today the net .
Evergreen Equalised within a few minutes and added a second one on the 32 minute mark . We Clawed it back to level in the second half where some got team work between Aoibhe and Ella , resulted in Rees slitting to the net … we held our own for long periods of time , and Molly Murphy , Niamh Did very well in our defence . Saoirse Corcoran put in a fin effort before having to leave the pitch due to an injury .
In the final 15 , Evergreen Pulled away , leaving the final Score at 5-2

The 300 Club Syndicate October monthly draw and the end of year Superdraw will be held in Comerford’s Bar, Saturday 29 Oct at 8:00 p.m. As always we would like to thank all our members for their continued support.
In 2018, The Mooncoin Celtic Finance and Development Committee was formed with the sole aim of developing the new Mooncoin Celtic home ground in Suir Crescent over a four-year period.
The committee held its first official meeting in July 2018 and at this time, the committee members included Denis Healy (Chairperson), John Ryan (Vice Chairperson), Seamus Comerford and Noel O Keeffe (Co-Treasurers), Michelle O Hanlon (Secretary), Tom Grant, Gillian Bailey, and Michael Comerford.
Work on the new home ground had already begun with a massive overhaul of the drainage system. Since then, major works on the pitch development, dressing rooms and flood lights has been completed with a total spend of just over €400,000.
The money to complete this work came from the Sports Capital Grant, Kilkenny County Council grants and loans from the Waterford Junior League and Clann Credo. None of this would have been achievable without the continued success of our 300 Club Lottery Syndicate.
We would like to thank all the shareholders of the 300 Club for their continued support which has attributed to the prevalent success of the syndicate and of the development and allowed us to be in a position to attain grants and loans.
It is time now for a change as the current Finance and Development Committee step down and a new committee to come on board. The new committee are Mervyn O Callaghan (Chairperson), Kieran Holohan (Vice – Chair), David Brennan (Secretary), Caroline O Mahoney and Eileen McGrath (Co-Treasurers), Aideen Murphy .
We wish the new committee all the success in completing the development in Suir Crescent and look forward to a bright future for Mooncoin Celtic with big plans in the pipeline.
Recently, members of the Mooncoin Celtic Finance and Development committee (Tom Grant and Michelle O Hanlon) presented a cheque to Kathy Egan, Principal of Schoil Mhuire Mooncoin for sponsorship of a race at the schools Race Night fundraiser.
A massive thank you to Universal Graphics for the two new signs in Suir Crescent. Just scan the QR code on the sign and sign up to join our 300 Club with flexible payment options.
The Mooncoin Celtic 300 Club syndicate has been the main driving force behind the development to date.
