The curtain came down on the season at the RSC back pitches this evening and Benfica showed why they are in contention for a possible double with a ruthless performance against our young side. The girls on duty this evening battled throughout the game. Tough season for our young squad against top opposition with plenty of positives to take for all players. Big thank you as always to supporters for cheering on the girls.

Ladies Cup Semi final Result : Mooncoin Celtic 0 Benfica 3

From the off our young ladies side set their stall out to frustrate Benfica for as long as possible and try catch them on the break. Our young back 4 were superb throughout the first half and really limited Benfica to long range shots. A lapse on 15 minutes was the only downside when a run from deep by the Benfica winger resulted in the opener. The whole midfield and Caoimhe Power up top done huge work throughout the first half and deserved more for their efforts. 1 nil at half time. A similar plan for the second half was set out but an early goal from a corner put a bit of daylight between the teams. A late third goal by Benfica saw them progress but a huge sense of pride in the disciplined performance by our young starting side with an average age of just 19. Best of luck to Benfica in the Cup final. Big thank you to all the supporters today throughout the game.

A big crowd came through our new gates and enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon with plenty of fun had among coaches and players in all games and cross bar challenges. We finished with our player of the year awards for season 2022 /2023. A big thanks to everyone that helped set up for the day, Wild Willow Coffee Trailer for pitching up for the day and our two chefs Adam Cunningham and Mark Quinn for running the BBQ. Thanks must go to Mondo’s Takeaway for sponsoring our crossbar challenge prizes. Final thanks goes to everyone that sponsored our Soccer Marathon, it was very much appreciated.

1B League Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 Seaview Celtic 2

A rip roaring start in Suir Crescent this evening with Adam Cunningham opening the scoring from a neat free kick routine on 10 minutes. Chances to beat the band came throughout the first half for us and Ryan Carroll tucked away our second on 25 minutes. A poor defensive error resulted in a goal being pulled back for Seaview. Try as we might we couldn’t add to our tally before half time. Second half saw a similar trend, chances a plenty but no finish to extend our lead and we got punished on 80 minutes with Seaview tucking away the equaliser. We still had more chances before the end but again poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept us out. Disappointing result but we’ll take the positives of all the chances created throughout the 90 minutes.

Ladies League Result Park Rangers 2 Mooncoin Celtic 0

An early goal in each half saw Park Rangers secure the three points. After conceding early in the game, our girls settled and plenty chances came our way but the crossbar, goalkeeper and a number of near misses prevented us equalising.

A second goal from a corner knocked the wind out of our sails but back we came and again created plenty of opportunities but no end product.
Benfica await in the cup semi-final on Sunday at home in Suir Crescent at 3pm before our final league fixture next Wednesday away to Benfica.

A birds eye view

We had an eye in the sky during the week to showcase some of the work done in the last 12 months at a cost of just under €160,000.

None of this would have been possible without the support of everyone in our 300 club and everyone supporting our 50 50 draw. Thank you for your continued support.

Ladies League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 3 Villa

Our young ladies side entertained Villa in sunny conditions and an even first half saw chances for both sides with both goalkeepers equal to anything thrown at them, nil all at half time.

The second half saw an early goal for Villa and a second was added after a scramble from a corner. Try as we might we couldn’t breach the Villa back line.

Villa killed the game off with a breakaway goal and deservedly took the three points. A few new positions tried out for a few of the girls and we’ll take the positives in to next week away to Park Rangers.
