This evening our u10 squad travelled up to play Piltown for the Tom Conway memorial shield. A beautiful evening for a game and both teams put on a good game for the watching crowd. Ben Brennan picked up one of the man of the match awards for his non stop work rate. Big thanks to Piltown for hosting us this evening. For the record, we let Piltown have the shield for the next year.

Pubs League High Scoring game
High scoring game this evening in the pubs league with The Rose of Mooncoin beating The Foxes Den 4-1. This game could have been 6-6 at the end. Two bad defences or two good attacks? Spectators there this evening can comment on it. Highlight of the night was not one but two brilliant goals from Johnny Kelly who showed that class is very much permanent when he rolled back the years for an hour. We won’t mention Eric Walsh’s miss!
Tomorrow night again sees one game with Maisie’s facing Kerwicks in what could be an interesting game. 7.30 kick off in this one and again we ask people to park in the ground, please do NOT park on the road outside.
Pubs League hosts two good gamez
This evenings games in the pubs league threw up two good games with The Royal Oak beating Comerfords A easily with a scoreline of 3-0. The second game was a cracker with Bradys facing The Auld Rogue. Two decent sides went at it for the hour with the Carrick boys coming out on top with two late goals. Highlight of the night was super goalkeeping from Josh Byrne for Bradys when he produced a couple of world class saves. Glen Keane with The Auld Rogue pushed him close when he somehow missed an open goal from 15 yards.
Tomorrow evening sees The Rose of Mooncoin play the Foxes Den at 6.45 while a seaside derby between Whites of Ballymacaw and O’Neill’s of Tramore kicks off at 8. Again, please park in the ground, NO parking on the road.
Pubs League glorious conditions in Ashgrove
This year’s pub’s league kicked off in glorious conditions in Ashgrove this evening. The Mansion House and Comerfords B went toe to toe with the more experienced Comerfords side easing through 2-1 with some impressive displays from non League players John Hearne and Karl Conway. They face the holders Doyle’s Saturday evening at 7.15.
Tomorrow evening sees a local derby with Comerfords A facing The Royal Oak at 6.45.
The second game we welcome Brady’s from John’s Park who face The Auld Rogue from Carrick at 8.00.
Two tasty fixtures for everyone to come and enjoy.
Again, parking is available in the ground so please do NOT park on the road outside. See ye all tomorrow.

The old forge of Tramore received a bye and go straight to the quarter finals.

U12 Cup final result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 Kilmacow 2
A disappointing result for Derek’s squad but the better team edged it in this south Kilkenny derby between neighbouring villages which was a first in a schoolboy cup final. An even enough first half with very few chances created by either team. The second half started with Mooncoin pushing a little higher up the pitch which left them open to the break which is how Kilmacow nicked the opener with a very good break and finish. With the clock ticking down, pressure needed to increase and try as they might with Ciara O’Keeffe launching long throws and Michael Cronin with a number of frees they couldn’t break down a solid Kilmacow defence. A second goal from another quick break finished the game as a contest and so the dream was over. A valuable bit of experience gained today which will stand to them in years to come. A big thank you to all the support in Tramore this morning for the squad, especially all the parents of the players who must be commended for their superb support all season regardless of results. To Derek Tebay, Thomas O’Brien and Catherine Blackmore for their efforts, a massive thanks. Finally to the squad who have entertained us the last few weeks in a splendid cup run, take a well deserved bow. Not to be today, but they’ll be back stronger than ever next season. Congratulations to Kilmacow on their victory and the very best of luck in the upcoming u13 cup final.

Fixtures for the weekend:
Tomorrow: U12 Cup Final
Mooncoin Celtic v Kilmacow, kick off 10.30
After less than 24 hours since the lads won their semi final, here we are previewing the final. The tired bodies from last night will get little time to recover but come tomorrow morning at 10.30 Derek’s squad will be raring to go.
This will be the clubs first schoolboy cup final since 2011, a long wait but hopefully it will be worth it on what will be a proud but emotional day.
They face a Kilmacow side who finished second in the league and will be hoping to continue their own clubs successful season where a number of trophies have been secured already at both adult and schoolboy level and they also have an u13 cup final to come aswell.
The two meetings in the league both finished 1-0 to Kilmacow so very little between them on the day. It has been a long season for both management and players since last August. This being Derek Tebays first season in charge, he has moulded a nice group together and even though they finished lowly in the league, they have matched the best of what’s in that league during the season.
This group have worked hard all winter to improve and slowly but surely they are progressing.
As a young group they were dealt a devastating blow when Rocky passed away in April, but this has galvanized them and brought them ever closer with an incredible spirit among the squad. They stood together as a squad at his removal and burial to show maturity beyond their years. Rocky had got involved on the training pitch last October and had become very popular with the group before his untimely death.
Tomorrow, they will give their all again. They would like everyone to come and support them and shout them on as they look to take one last scalp and win the cup.
So please get yourselves out to Tramore for 10.30 in the morning. It’s going to be a cracker. Our Youths defied the odds when they beat Ballinroad to win their cup.
This young squad can repeat the trick, no question.
The very best of luck to both players and management tomorrow.
Fingers crossed the Rock will shine down on us again.
COME ON MOONCOIN CELTIC!
Drainage works
Declan Walsh and Sons are nearly done with their section of the drainage works and await the next stage of slit drains before final works are completed before sowing of the grass. A phenomenal amount of work put in over the last month by the lads. The space created will shock a lot of people who knew the ground of old with the banks all around the pitch and the old hurling pitch fenced in with concrete posts and wire. The club will hold an open morning at the ground in a number of weeks, more details to follow on this. We would like to thank everyone who has helped get the ground to this stage. A lot of work done, a lot more to do.
U12 cup semi final report: Stradbally 0 Mooncoin Celtic 1
Nerves a plenty at the start of this semi final as Derek’s young squad faced a Stradbally side who had beaten them twice in the season. A game to remember for all of them as a large crowd from Mooncoin cheered them on. A 50/50 first half with a number of chances created by both sides but Stradbally couldn’t find a way past Jake Moore. The second half had a similar trend with little given by either side with Jake Moore again keeping Stradbally out with save after save. 7 minutes left on the clock and Mooncoin Celtic were awarded a free kick 25 yards out and a masterstroke of a move from Derek Tebay when he beckoned Jake Moore from the goal to take the free kick. Jake stood over the ball with the crowd watching in anticipation. A sweet strike over the wall and nestled in the top corner. Ya couldn’t write it in fairness. The scenes of celebration afterwards will be remembered for a long time.
So now, a cup final awaits on Saturday morning in Tramore against Kilmacow. Kick off 10.30.
Tell everyone to get themselves, their families, their friends and even their dogs out to Tramore as this squad deserve your support on Saturday. One step left.
COME ON MOONCOIN CELTIC!
