U11F Boys League: Villa 3 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

Oisín was captain today and was man of the match for Mooncoin. A mix up in defence led to Villa’s first and handball in the build-up was conveniently missed for their second.

Mooncoin rallied and Donncha was desperately unlucky when through on goal with his shot landing the wrong side of the goal-line via the crossbar.

Shane was hacked down in the box soon after and should feel aggrieved not to have won a pen. Second half Villa scored their third with a cracker well out of our keeper’s reach. Mooncoin pressed on and were unlucky not to have another pen with Billy fouled from behind this time round. His free kick moments later was volleyed sweetly by Rueben only just wide.

Liam F snuck in at the back post later on for a well taken goal and his second of the season. 3-1 to the home team but the lads gave a great account of themselves this evening.

Munster Shield: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 3 Breaska Rovers

A titanic battle took place in Suir Crescent this afternoon with very little between the two teams.

A rip roaring start by us saw Emily Blackmore cause a few problems and a penalty was awarded after Emily was upended. Unfortunately a super save by the Breaska Keeper kept the penalty out.

Breaska were dangerous all over the pitch and were rewarded with a penalty of their own after some slack defending which they converted despite the best efforts of Grace O Toole. A few minutes before half time we were punished for more slack defending and Breaska went in 2 nil to the good.
A stern talk at half time saw a resurgence in the girls and some excellent football was played before Ella Brennan buried one from 20 yards out on 70 minutes. Try as we might, that equaliser eluded us and Breaska scored from a corner with a few minutes remaining. Disappointing result but a heck of a performance from our young side.

Excellent performance throughout with stand out players being Grace O’Toole, Becky Connaughton, Beth Kelly and the star today Ella Brennan.
Best of luck to Breaska Rovers in the rest of the competition.

U11D Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 0 Hibernian

A great performance was put in by all involved today with the boys getting their first clean sheet of the season at home to Hibs.

They were solid in the back with Luke Hennebery, Shay Moore and Tom Fewer sweeping up anything that came their way keeping shots from coming in the way of Oscar O Keefe.

Teddy Dunphy got a shot cleared off the line in the first half and continued to create plenty chances throughout. A very positive performance.

U16 Girls League: Ballyduff 0 – 5 Mooncoin Celtic

The u16s visited Ballyduff last night for our penultimate game of the season .

We had a slow start to the game and it took us a little time to settle . There was some good exchanges between both teams with both clamouring to get on top .

From the 18th minute right the way through to the final whistle , we began to take control, with goals from Emily Blackmore, Aoibhe Rees, Niamh Reddy , Ella Brennan and Eimear Quinn . Ballyduff had some great chances on goal , but Sadhbh Kirwan denied them with a great performance in goal .

U11A Boys League: Piltown 2 – 2 Mooncoin Celtic

A game of two halves with our boys flying out of the traps and Will Doherty notching after 5 minutes play. Piltown were always dangerous on the break and Tyler Kelly had to be on his toes throughout the first half.

Cian O’Donoghue finished off an excellent team goal coming up to half time and 2 nil it finished but the expected Piltown comeback was instant with a quick fire goal in the first few minutes of the second half and an equaliser from a long range free brought this derby game all square.

Disappointing result after being 2 up, on to the next one. Good performance all round with Tommy K, Cian O’D and Billy O’K shining.

U11F Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 0 St Saviours

Liam F captained the lads today who were looking to avoid a third straight defeat. There were very few clear cut chances in a nervy first half.

Second half was more entertaining and the lads were unlucky not to take the lead but Billy’s shot went wide via the post. Minutes later Tom’s shot was saved by the keeper having been put through on goal.

TJ’s handling needed to be good on a couple of occasions and was fast off his line when called upon.

Credit also goes to Tadhg for the ground covered in midfield throughout as well as his intelligent use of the ball. 0-0 it finished for the first draw of the season.

U17 Girls League: Villa 2 – 6 Mooncoin Celtic

The u17 girls travelled to villa today and from the first whistle our girls worked as a team and supported each other from front to back. Emily Blackmore took her first chance from a free kick outside the box which was slotted perfectly into the net.

The girls continued to work hard and won another free this time on the left wing. Sommer Grant was next to have shot and saw her excellent driving free kick hit the back of the net. Our third goal came from some excellent play on the right wing from Emily and Sommer to set up Sarah Walsh who slotted the ball with pin point accuracy into the bottom corner.

In the second half more of the same and Emily scored her second with a long range shot on her left foot. We then failed to press a villa player who scored to bring it back to 4-1.

Our girls reacted to this in the perfect way with a fantastic run down the right wing from Aoibhe Rees who crossed it in to Sommer Grant who slotted home her second of the match. Our final goal came from a half way line break from Aoibhe Rees who fired home for our 6th.

Villa got a second goal in the final moments of the match. Huge effort by all our girls, every single girl was excellent today to earn another 3 points.
